Being a bum is not so easy, how do I stop or what's wrong with me?!

Question: I was laid off from work 3 months ago, every morning I'm looking for work and no luck. When I was working, I worked my *** off. I had a career and even thought of going solo creating my own freelance business. I wake up every morning at 5:45 a.m. to make my husband his lunch, BF, and walk the dog. When my hubby leaves at 7:30a.m. I lay back down to just rest for a few I tell myself, but I end up getting out of bed at 12pm I try my hardest to get up earlier and I can't! It's like I'm beyond exhausted and my body refuses to get up. When I do get up I make sure dinner is almost ready when he comes home and the house is clean. He does not know how late I sleep in. I could be getting so many more projects done if I stayed awake or at least got up by 9am. I feel like such a bum, I hate the way it makes me feel, but at the time while I'm in my bed cuddling my pillow getting great Zzzzs I'm not thinking like that, I keep hoping in 30 minutes I'll have enough energy or strength.

It sounds very much like clinical depression. I highly recommend that you see a physician, as there are medications that can help you get back on track.

It's not uncommon at all, in this situation. Many people have a lot of their self worth tied up in their careers, and when that goes away, it can be really hard to get back to your "normal" self.

Another recommendation I'd like to make, is to start working out. I know it sounds contrary, but the truth of the matter is that when you're working out, you end up with more energy overall. Try setting the alarm for 5:30, instead of 5:45. Just a few minutes of basic calisthenics (sit-ups, push-ups, jumping jacks) can make a huge difference. Do this before you start the coffee, and at least if you still need to go back to bed, you'll feel that you've accomplished something for yourself, and that can only help.

You're not a bum! It's really important that you don't turn this into a personality problem. It's a medical issue (IMO), and can be corrected! At this point, I think the only thing you're really doing wrong is to allow it to continue without seeking help from a professional.

schedule something to do. then you wont be tempted to lie back down.

It sounds like your depressed. People who are depressed are often tired and unmotivated. The most sensible thing would be to see a therapist who can help you cope with your depression or even recommend medication if that's necessary. You might also go to your regular doctor and discuss your symptoms with him (her). If you want to try self help, consider going to a gym, doing yoga (or meditation), and getting involved in some sort of volunteer activity, but I think therapy is the best course of action.

A common symptom of depression is sleeping a lot. Maybe that is what's going on?

I post with the utmost respect and intend no insult to you personally, my post is written as an expression for me to hear.

My previous outburst have been undignified and I felt ashamed, but as I calmed I realized we don
