Are there varying degrees of Asperger's Syndrome?!

Question: I know A S is on a spectrum of autism, but do all aspies need to practice a script before an interview or for any socialization? Do they all have sensory issues? Do they rely totally on their mates to make it in life? I know some choose never to marry, but can they make good husbands to NT wives?
Thank you so much!

I can't answer all of your questions, but I can tell you what I know from experience with a friends kid and from my ex-boyfriends friend.

My friends kid, who is now 21, has Asperger's syndrome. It was discovered when he was very young and his mom worked very hard with him to get him through school and to teach him all he needs to know for life. He still lives with his mom, but he is an independent young man who is able to hold down jobs, etc. You would not know by talking with him that he has AS.

My ex-boyfriends friend was shunned by his family. They never got him any help and were ashamed of him. His AS was never helped his whole life. You can definitely tell by talking with him that he has AS. He is married, but he does depend on his wife for so many things, has a terrible memory, etc.

From my experiences, there is different degrees of AS, depedning if the person gets help or not, and what kind of help they get, how much support they have from family and friends, etc.

If there's one thing I know, it's that there is no "always" and "never" when it comes to Autism/Aspergers. My daughter sometimes has sensory issues where things will bother her for a while, then she's fine for a while. She is really bad at making and keeping friends, but made 4 friends that she kept during a summer program a couple years ago. It seems that different situations affect them differently at different stages.
As for an adult, I have no idea. I heard from my family advocate that her son calmed down once puberty was over and is pretty settled and mellow. He still has things that bug him, but none of the outbursts and mood swings that come w/ the younger kids. I know that many Aspies need additional assistance for a long time--some forever. Some go on to college and lead completely productive and independent lives. There is no telling. I'm not sure what an "NT" wife is, but I'm sure a relationship with an Aspie is just like any other relationship--you get used to someone's idiosyncrasies
and you either deal with it or don't. :)
