Was I hallucinating or was this some weird sleep paralysis?!

Question: Last night I went to sleep around 1:30 a.m. A short time after I had fallen asleep, I started having a dream about snorkeling, and then coming across a shark. All of a sudden my dream ended because I woke up, I was hearing extremely loud whooshing in my ears like a plane was flying beside my house, and it kept oscillating. The whole room was shaking and wavering around me. I was paralyzed and couldn't breathe and my arms were just stuck straight out and I felt like I was going to suffocate. What the hell was this?

I suffer from sleep paralysis as well. It is a harless thing but a scary one. You may want to talk to your doctor about it and see if he can help. Otherwise check out webmd.com for a little assistance. Good luck

Mmm not sure really. Maybe you were having a lucid dream which is like dreaming while being conscious. That's my best guess sorry! Try reading the link below and see if any of it sounds similar to your experience?

putting your dream aside, the things you described sound to me, like vertigo. I first found out that I had vertigo experiencing the same exact things you experienced (except the dream). My muscles seemed to have frozen, I could NOT move, the room was moving, the noise in my ears was loud, it was as horrible as you're describing and I panicked just as much as you.

Check it out with your doctor. Unfortunately, after all of the testing, they may wind up telling you to stare at one small spot on the wall or something to help your brain catch up to your eyes and resume your balance, and give you some dorky motion-sickness medication that may or may not help.

One way to help out w/ this at home is to drink more water and consume less salt. Don't know what one has to do with the other, but it does help. Also, during times of heavy pollen (Spring, for example), your allergies and/or sinus issues can enhance symptoms of vertigo. Simply taking Sudafed (or whatever you take) seems to help me too.

I don't think there's a cure for this, but there's at least ways to deal with it and make your symptoms less severe...if vertigo is what you have.

Sorry I couldn't be any more informative. I'd still talk with the doc to see.

Good luck!

omgosh, the same thing exact thing happened to me a couple of months ago. IT WAS HORRIBLE. MY ROOM'S DOWNSTAIRS N IT'S DARK. I COULDN'T MOVE A MUSCLE AND I COULDN'T SPEAK BUT IN MY HEAD I WAS CONSCIOUS. I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE OR SOMETHING. SO YEAH I WAS ASKING AROUND N PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY BUT IT'S NICE TO KNOW SOMEONE EXPEREINCED THE SAME THING LOL
