Help I am going crazy sitting at my desk all day, help?!

Question: Since I lost my full time job due to the terrible economy, I applied at a temporary agency. They have not done a very good job at keeping me busy. I am working as a front desk receptionist but the phone only rings once in a while. So the majority of the time I just sit here with nothing to do except for the Internet. I am already bored out of my mind and so restless. I am going crazy. I have to remain seated for the entire time in case someone comes by and or the phone rings.

How do you handle extreme restlessness and being bored silly at your job without going crazy?

Talk to your immediate supervisor about what activities they consider acceptable while you're waiting for calls or visitors. First, ask if there are tasks you could do to help the workplace. You could alphabetize active files, speeding their return to the filing cabinets, for instance. Perhaps you could update the office phone directory, or create a version sorted by department and another by first names. Find out how you can contribute. (This will get back to the temp agency, too.)

If they've got nothing, find out what your options are. Are you allowed to read? Work crossword or math puzzles? Write? Chat online?

All I know to do is get out and find something else, it's out there, I see signs all the time. I had to leave my last job like that, it truly was affecting my mental well being and you sound like me, have to have physical and mental stimuli to keep you motivated...just keep looking, don't settle in where you are. I'd even step down a notch before staying in a dull boring job, you can always advance and maybe turn on to something else you didn't even know you liked, ie retail or something.

Read, write, or find another job. It sounds like you have trouble making the best out of your time. Organize your life and the rest will follow.

well when i'm bored i jus do a sudoko,u may not get it but it's very fun...and if u dont like that do a word search or a cross word puzzle!

don't surf to much, that risks your job.. don't complain to anyone @ work that could also be a risk to your job...

i would suggest finding an author, or getting into a genre of books... you can get though a book every 2-3 shifts. in the end it'll benefit you more than you could ever know.

that or buy a Nintendo DS and play wifi multiplayer all day ^_^

QUIT. find something you can do that you love

Join the club thats all i do... infact i am at work just now and iv been sitting on here all day... eat some food find some websites to play games on... at least we r getting paid for doing f*** all...!! Lol...

Eat food drink coffee go for a wonder round...!
