Lithium?? It's making me feel strange. Is this normal?!

Question: I just started taking lithium today for Bipolar and I was told it had no side affects and just to drink alot of fluids. Well, it has made me feel dizzy and sleepy and I do not like it. Anyone having to take lithium please tell me...DOES THIS GO AWAY!? And when?

Whoever told you that there are no side effects for lithium is very WRONG! You need to have your lithium levels checked frequently to make sure your not nearing toxic levels. Some side effects that are normal to get are slight hand tremors, excessive urination, mild thirst, mild nausea and some weight gain. Sometimes these do not go away. Make sure that you are getting enough water and salt in your diet. this is very important because if you don't then your levels will be higher and may become toxic. Do not stop taking your medication without talking to your doctor first. very very important. also ask the doctor before taking other medications. there is so much that you need to know about this medication!! I would seriously either ask your doctor to explain (I don't know why they didn't) or call or go to the pharmacy and they can give you the information that you need. Please look into this. Good luck!

When I was on it I was always sleepy and thirsty. It never went away. In fact the drug did more damage than good.

theres TONS of side effects on that. get used to feeling weird
