No motivation for college, too stressed, how can I get myself to graduate?!

Question: One of my friends recently died (possible suicide), my mom has bipolar II disorder and has also tried to kill herself, so this causes me to have a lot of stress. My grandmother is also dying and my twin sister has major health problems. I work to pay for my own food and rent which also causes stress. I am struggling to stay focused in school and have no motivation. I don't want to do anything. I'm a Junior astro-physics major and after this semester (assuming I pass everything), I only need to take two classes to be done with the major. How can I get myself to care about homework again? I can't take time off school because home is more stressful than school is and I lose my insurance if I'm not a full time student, but I really don't care about school any more even though I know that I should. My grades have been decreasing because I don't care enough, and can't concentrate on anything. The school counselors aren't helpful. My insurance doesn't cover mental health care. What do I do?

You are already off to a good start by caring enough about yourself to seek help. Continue your search online, you may be surprised at what you find.

In addition to the list on the website below, I would add:
- start working out (exercise reduces stress, increases motivation, and decreases depression)
- Find someone else to talk to if the school counselors aren't working (friends, classmates, relatives, etc)
- Meditate or Pray
- Play. Yes Play. Have fun and act as young as possible to start creating some positive energy for yourself.

This website gives 10 creative and different ways to get motivated for school and homework. Good luck!

You need to tell yourself that these two classes are all you need to change your life. The stresses that you are having right now would be overwhelming to anyone. The fact that you have been able to handle them to this point is admirable. I'm not sure what you mean by "school counselors". Are these academic advisors or mental health professionals. Many colleges have mental health professionals that you can see for free confidentialy. If the one or two you saw didn't help, try another counselor within the clinic. You will be angry at yourself when your life calms down if you don't finish your schooling now.

Go to see the school counselor. They specialize in this and it's free.

change the way you view your homework and school work. Start trying to view it as a way to escape the stresses in your life instead of being a stress cause in your life. thats what ive done and it works wonders.
