For me it was talk therapy, medication and coping methods.

My psychiatrist recommended that if I really can't control the urge to cut, grab two ice cubes, put one in each palm and squeeze until the cold burns. It's uncomfortable later but there's no scarring or bleeding, its safer, and it can give you that temporary rush. But even then try to avoid it.

Hey, sorry if this offends you, but I really wanna know why people cut themselves.

Did you do it because it felt good to hurt yourself, or something like that?

Not trying to be offensive or anything, just really want to know.

Go to a therapist, or talk to someone you trust to help you.

Some people put an elastic on there arm and when they feel they need to self-harm flick themself with it. It works for some people but not for all so if you still have the urge to do it I would talk to your parents or go see a doctor. Keep the elastic on all the time but don't get one that will cut off circulation or anything.

Chew gum, get a hobby, a girlfriend, a psychiatrist... etc.

Start another habit that'll take cutting's place.....

try this site it looks good, i self harm to mate so i know how it feels

ay you emo!
why would you want to hurt
yourself that bad you could die did
you know that! if you have a hard life
there are other ppl that have it harder than you
so think about that

I'm a 12 year old girl, and i know i don't sound like the depressed type but seriously i have anorexia, nobody knows and i'm being bullied, I KNOW ABOUT DEPRESSION.
I gave up self-harming for lent and i haven't started again since although maybe that's coz the scalpals are at school and i'm still on hols.
Its really not the way to go, maybe if you don't want to cut down all together str8 away u shud just limit yourself and write down why you feel like self-harming, then when u r feeling better you can identify why u self harm and you can gradually cut back.

flippin awsome is a moron do not listen to that person...

just take it one day at a time and slowly but surely you will be rid of it... or you can go like i did and end up in the ER carried by my best friend and needing surgery on my arm... now when i get sad/depressed, I reach for the tissues instead of the knife...

First off saarahth-that is dumb. why would you take up another bad habbit to replace a bad habbit? I used to cut and I "replaced" it with anorexia. I almost died. So dont replace it. You need to dig deep and find out why your hurting so bad you want to hurt yourself. English-I know how you feel, i have anorexia also, and have been hospitalized twice. Your so young, you need to tell someone so you can get the help you need or you'll live with the disease the rest of your life, or die. Please get help!

I was a cutter for five years. I'm now 20 (stopped cutting at 17) living with scars that people ask about everyday, and what am I supposed to tell them? Ask yourself what you want to be telling people when they ask about yours, because I sure wish I did. i got to admit it was hard to stop, but I replaced the feeling to cut with some other activity like shooting hoops, going for a walk, talk to someone. Keep yourself busy all the time, it'll help take your mind off of cutting and other self injurious behavior and before you know it you won't want to cut any more.

Its me again, just wanted to the person called myeveryt 2 above me that thanks, so many people tell me to tell someone but i can't, i just don't hav any1 who would understand. I told one girl @ skl and then her friewnd set up a gossip blog on the internet and in like a second there was 300 comments about me being anorexic and i only told her, so now i don't think i can trust anyone.
