Tell my parents about depression?!

Question: I'm very afraid to tell my parents about my depression. I go to college 6 hours away from home and they worry about me all the time. My parents are divorced and both are remarried and starting new sets of families. I feel lost and misplaced, but they're all so happy and I feel like my problems would just dampen these new lives they're trying to make for themselves.

I just spent an hour sitting outside the window of my dorm on the 6th floor, wondering how long it would take before my body hit the ground. If I had pondered any longer, I think I would have pushed myself off without hesitation.

I'm slightly worried that my parents won't take me seriously if I confess. They'll brush it off and tell me to suck it up. I don't know what to do...

Call the suicide hotline 1-800-784-2433 and talk to them. I called them once by accident and they were so good. They helped me out with what I was looking for and I wasn't even suicidal. They are full of resources that can help you. I don't know what state you live in, but if you don't have a lot of resources and need to get therapy, they should be able to help you find out how to get it with no charge.

Your parents will care, but may not really understand at first how serious depression can be. Have them read up on it. It may take a little time and education, but they will eventually understand. I would get them going on it right away, so if you need them in the future even more, they will have had the time to research the seriousness of depression and be able to fully understand how to help you.

are you taking any medication for this? maybe you should try that first before you open up to your parents if you dont feel they could take it.
then if you get better.. great!!!
if not.. then maybe you should try councelling? talk about your feelings and that..

:) xx

You need to talk to them. Think of how bad they would feel if you had pushed yourself out the window. Just tell them you need help, that's what families are for. Please get help. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

Seek out therapy. There's no real need for you to die. You are here for a reason, and it's not to hurt your loved ones.

search "Skittles" in Youtube and click the first one... Yes, the music video...
It's a bit weird around the beggining, but it's the middle that the magic kicks in...
Did it make you feel pretty happy? Now think of life like that... Wouldn't it be great if life was always happy.
Listen to other music... It changes emotion. Just not sad music... If you listen to lots of happy music, you'll be permantly happy..
Good luck...
Remember depression and sadness is bad. Happiness is so much better

You need your parents in your life and they need to realise this. It sounds like they are both so involved in their own new lifes that they aren't caring about you as much which is probably why you partly feel the way you do.
You need to talk to them about this and it's also a big wakeup call for them which they might need.
Please don't kill yourself, it's such a waste and life will probably get better.
Just try with your parents and if not get counselling or talk to a friend or someone else about how you feel.

Please.
DO NOT DECIDE THAT YOUR PARENTS DO NOT HAVE TIME TO BE WORRIED ABOUT YOU.

Please.
DO NOT USE A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO A TEMPORARY PROBLEM.

If your parents aren't helpful, then don't tell them. Talk to someone at the school.

You need help right away!! There must be counselors available at your college - find out and go talk to them as soon as possible - they will help you.
