Does anyone here either take antidepressant?!

Question: Does anyone here either take antidepressants or antipsychotic medication? Do your parents or did your parents ever tell you to stop taking the medication and to stop going to your therapist because they believe you don't need the medication and therapists anymore? How did did you deal with your parents? Did you just ignore them?

If you feel that you need the medication don't stop taking it.
Obviously the depressive and/or psychotic symptoms are in your body so how do your parents have a right to say your better? they don't know.

My mum has a hard time understanding mental illness and when i was going through depression and had to be on medication for a while she couldn't understand why i needed it.

But i knew i did (being a nursing student) and in the end it really worked. It helped me, i'm off it now, have been for 6 months and doing great.

i used to take paroxetine but changed 2 durazac ,anyhow i neva told my parents ,they believed im okay evn tho i didnt eat n slept almost all z time but they thought its just fatigue ,*sigh* its up to the thrapist ,if he thinks u r okay thn he will put u off it ,n if you wasnt convenced by his opinion ,visit another 1 ,get well soon

First of all, I am an adult (29 years old) so my business is my own business. If you are a teen, you should listen to your parent. Therapy and medication can work wonders for a depressed person or someone with a mental illness. If you are paying for the therapy and medication and you feel it is helping, then continue to do this. My parents aren't really supportive of my depression/ bi-polarism, but I had them meet with the therapist to help them understand. Now, they are supportive. I would do what you feel is right for you.

Yes I have been on anti depressants for a few years. My parents have often said to me that I don't need them anymore but I am the best judge of that. Tell your parents they they should be glad you are doing things to help yourself, instead of bottling it up. Antidepressants help to keep you balanced while you sort out your other problems, which you are doing with you therapist.
Well done for seeking help, because many do not and sometimes it can end very badly.

Dont' ignore them, but you do need to let them know that your not sure if theat's the right thing to do!
We as people know ourselves better than anyone else does, trust yourself, especailly where others are trying to tell you or make you do something that your guts telling you is wrong.
Talk to your therapist and tell him or her what your parents have said and ask what they think about it! Never stop taking your meds without being sure that's the best thing for YOU!!!

Ive been on a couple of antidepressants before but ive stopped taking them all.
I was on Wellbutrin SR, Paxil, Lexapro, and another one that i cant remember. I found that Wellbutrin worked the best but i dont know why i was on it. On the website it says "There is a risk of seizure when taking WELLBUTRIN XL and WELLBUTRIN SR, so don't use if you've had a seizure or eating disorder. WELLBUTRIN XL and WELLBUTRIN SR are approved only for adults 18 years and over. In some children and teens, antidepressants increase suicidal thoughts or actions."
---Im bulimic and at the time i was 15 (if i remember correctly) so i think my psychiatrist was a complete idiot for putting me on that. [Im 17 now].
---I hated paxil and i just took myself off the lexapro because it wasnt working for me and i hated the medication in general.

My parents dont really say much. My mom encourages me to go to therapy and take the medication but thats abuot it. My therapist just left me [new job. 2nd therapist that has left me] so i decided im not going to do the therapy thing anymore because its to much of a hassle for me and i HATE that everytime i just start to get along with a therapist they leave.
My dads not really involved in my health so thats a non issue.

Im just kinda stuck right now. My moms not encouraging me to continue therapy or seeing my psychiatrist. I think she got it that im not gonna do it. She'll see me depressed but she wont say anything.

So right now im just kinda dealing.

I was diagnosed with various mental illnesses since I was 13, I am now 21, and have tried now 17 different medications, at one time being ON EIGHT, to help.

Some of it helps, but I think I've just gotten immune to it, and I refuse to take a lot b/c I don't see much help mentally, when the side-effects physically ill me.

Parents/adults can think what they want, but it is UP TO THE ONE WHO IS SICK to make the decisions, unless you are over the top getting worse or showing NO improvement at all. But that is up to you.

If you decide, parents should listen, but they are parents and want you to try the heck out of things b/c they are so overworried and mental illness can lead to the worse-- the loss of their kid via suicide. It makes sense, is annoying. You just have to reall talk to them face to face so they know what is going on, so they get it. Even write a letter, cry to them with screaming.

Ignoring can work, but ignoring is a hoax, like you ever really do it, it just hangs on a back burner with all the rest of your burdening thoughts as someone mentally ill!

yes i do and this just happened to me!

1. ask why they do not want to support you in your emotional health.

2. tell them why you are going. dont play the blame game.
agree with them leave your theripist then intentionaly act crazy, and they will send you back. (this take around 2 weeks- usualy)

YOU ARE NOT TAKING THESE ANTIDEPRESSANT BY YOURSELF.THEY WERE PRESCRIBED TO YOU BY YOUR THERAPISTS.DON'T STOP THE MEDICATIONS BY YOURSELF AND TRY TO CONVINCE YOUR PARENTS THAT YOU NEED THE THERAPY AND LISTEN EARNESTLY TO THEIR POINT OF VIEW.IF THEY CONVINCE YOU THAT YOU DON'T NEED THE THERAPY TRY TO STOP THE MEDICATION GRADUALLY.IF YOU FEEL THIS WILL WORSEN YOUR STATUS,CONTINUE WITH THEM AND IGNORE WHAT YOUR PARENTS WANT.BUT IN ALL CASES DO IT KINDLY AND POLITELY....LOL.

I diagnosed myself with depression when I was in 7th grade, but I never told anyone because my mom always told me that depression was overdiagnosed. It wasn't until I got away from my parents and went to college that I found help. I wasn't going to tell them I went to see a psychiatrist at first, but I decided I wanted my insurance to pay for my meds :) My mom reacted pretty much how I thought she would. She tried to attribute it all to school and stress, and she tried to convince me to come home in the middle of the semester! And to stay home this summer when I have a really lucrative internship lined up already! She doesn't think I need medication, but it's hard for her to understand. I kind of wish I never told her, but once I get out of school and get a real job I can pay for it all myself and it won't be my parents' business anymore.

yep, i take xanax, my parents tell me i dont need them and to stop taking them etc. i simply tell them to mind their own business! they dont understand. the only person that knows what is best for your health is the person that prescribes you the medication!
