There really is no specific mental illness that causes this.

If you are fishing for a mental disability out of laziness, then you need to stop it.

Hallucinations are caused by several things. Illegal drugs, alcohol, lack of sleep, eating bad food, and certain intimate relationships. However, initially, it doesn't mean that you are crazy. It just means that you are stupid.

Get off your butt and do something constructive.

There are several types:
Visual (sight)
Auditory (hearing both voices and music)
Olefactory (smell)
Gustatory (taste)
Tactile (touch)

Visual hallucinations are when someone sees things that aren't there. These are associated with a few mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, psychotic disorder, severe bipolar and depression, borderline personality disorder on occasion, and maybe a couple others.

Visual hallucinations also occur in a number of neurological conditions. Common ones are migraine, sleep paralysis, epilepsy, brain injury, brain cancer, and others.

Those who believe the hallucinations are real are delusional. Although this sounds like an easy way to distinguish between mental illness and neurological illness, many treated ppl with mental illnesses know the hallucinations are not real or at least recognize that they probably are not and that they need to call their doctor. Rarely do those with neurological hallucinations believe them to be real.
