My ten year old has Aspergers and Bipolar...?!
Question: my ten year old was diagnosed with these disorders at 5...He has trouble making and keeping friends it goes along with the illness...he sees lots of doctors to help him with this but nothing seems to be working...he has the desire to make friends but he cant...he gets really upset about this and it breaks my heart does anyone have any suggestions

My child is 11 & was DX with Aspergers at age 7. It is heartbreaking, I agree. In the summer, the neighborhood is abuzz with kids playing, having sleep overs, etc. And then there's us, who has a child that can't maintain friendships, etc.
There are several avenues of support out there for parents & kids dealing with AS. I also have a support group on Yahoo Answers : http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/CIA...
I have a lot of articles & other information on there & you're welcome to come by & check it out.
Are there any aspergers organizations in your area? Ideally, one for kids. Maybe ask his docs or therapist about social organizations that would be appropriate for him.
My son is 13 and he too has Aspergers and he has the same problem.He seems to be able to relate to older people rather kids his own age.He tends to scare off kids his own age because he talks about a lot of adult things.
With Bipolar it is very important to get at least 8 hours of sleep, a healthy diet, and enough excersize. Is he on any medication for either disorder?
I have AS too and I have the same problems regarding friends. Does he have any special interests? You could look for something like a hobby club that's about one of his interests, we tend to get along well with people who have the same interests as us.
