Borderline Personality Disorder DSM-IV Criteria

pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impulsivity beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

1. frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

2. a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.

3. identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.

4. impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

5. recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior

6. affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).

7. chronic feelings of emptiness

8. inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)

9. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

Sounds like manic depression or bi-polar disorder. Sometimes when someone is manic they are sleep deprived and can hear voices, have delusions of grandeur, and hallucinations. Also there is schizophrenia.

if the peson seems scared of voices it is schizophrenia
if the person has very sudden mood swings he is bipolar
and combination of these can result in a normal person being afraid of his hallucinogenic voices and eventually become voilent

bi-polar disorder

Hearing voices is a sign of schizophrenia. being nice and then angry can be a part of this or a separate disorder either bi-polar or borderline disorder. In all cases it is important this person seek professional help.

Nice one minute then angry the next sounds like Borderline Personality Disorder. It can include psychotic-like symptoms. By the time bipolar ramps up to hallucinations, it does not turn on and off. It lasts for days to weeks. Also, violence is not really a symptom of bipolar disorder. Irritation, agitation, aggrevation, yes. Actual violence outside of full psychosis is very rare and more prone to be a sign of a secondary disorder. (Note: most ppl with bipolar don't experience psychosis or don't to a significant degree.)

Hiya, Jemma! Heart of Glass here, my adult son & I BOTH have mental/emotional disabilities, have for many years, and I've done years of studying a wide variety of mental health issues. HOWEVER, I am NOT a Licensed Therapist/psychol-
ogist!! I only offer my opinion based on what I've experienced
myself, & on what I've learned. PLEASE, find a really GOOD,
licensed, counselor/therapist/psychologist!
My son & I both
have Bipolar, but neither one of us hears voices. That doesn't mean it's NOT BP, but your problem may be complicated by yet another disorder as well. Maybe, but maybe not. It SOUNDS like schizophrenia, but this is important!: are the voices that you're hearing coming from INSIDE, or OUTSIDE of your head? Either one could be resulting from
schizophrenia, but there are different types/levels of mental illness. For example, most military soldiers suffer from
PTSD(post traumatic stress disorder upon returning from war; I have PTSD Complex, more intense/difficult to
handle than PTSD. Jemma, Dear, you need to consult a professional...where do you live, perhaps I can help you to locate someone in your town/city....At the very least, sweetie, you are going through an EXTREMELY difficult & probably, scary! time right now...do you have a close parent, a friend that you can talk to until you can get stablized and more comfortable? If not, tho I'm an older woman and a mama, I'd be glad to be there for you, if you need someone....

sounds like bipolar or schizophrenia. hahha i totally spelled that wrong
