Holiday Depression.....?!

Question: How many of you out there get depressed around the holidays because you have lost too many loved ones? I have lost my Grand Father, My Father when I was 8. I lost my Grand Mother 5 years ago. I have not gotten in the holliday spirit ever since. To this day I can not stand any thing that has to do with the hollidays and I get really depressed. Every one I know loves the hollidays and tries to get me to join in. I have told them my reasons for not being happy. They always tell me to stop looking back and live in the present. I just can't do it. Any suggestions ???

I can relate! My father died on Christmas day and my mother several years later died 2 days before Christmas. I tell people I don't do Christmas and that usually shuts them up. Or they go out of there way to include me which is even worse. I try to stay to myself, don't watch christmas shows or listen to music. There is no easy way I have been trying for years.

serioulsy seek peace in the bible ask God to give you that peace and to make your mind and emotions anew

I lost my son five years ago at 17 and to make it worse his birthday was the 13th of this month, so I think I can honestly tell you that you need to cheer up and try to do your best to make everyone around you feel the holiday spirit and we can both cry later, this is hard for me too dear, but we must be strong! God Bless You!

I know how you feel, it`s hard for a lot of people. All I can say ,it really just for kids. When you get one it will take on a new meaning. You don`t have to join if you don`t want to.Just tell em , I`d rather be srcooge.Don`t worry, it will pass.Good Luck.People can`t understand a lot-if they haven`t been through it.

Unfortunately, Christmas isn't something that many of us can opt out of - it just screws with your family's heads and things get unpleasant.

This is a great opportunity for you to learn a great defense mechanism - passive aggressiveness! It's a wonderful way to take your mind off the depressive thoughts and redirect your energy towards those mean relatives who give you a hard time for not being artificially happy.

Here's one way of doing this. It's satisfying, won't tick off relatives too much, and get you known as a little weird about Christmas.

Give everyone gifts you know they will either hate or have no idea what to do with.

Now don't go wrapping up dog turds or putting ribbons on old phone books, you can't get out of it that easily. Put some thought and creativity into it. Go to a dollar store and find the most absurd things possible. Preferably select gifts that in some way match the recipient's personality. If Mom likes cats, for example, why not pick up that grotesquely ugly ceramic cat piggy bank?

You could also pick a theme. Maybe give everyone something that's purple, or wrap everything, even a brother's present, in Barbie wrapping paper (I did that one a couple years ago). Or maybe SpongeBob paper, whichever fits your mood.

You can have a lot of fun with this if you can find a way to divert your attention into some kind of activity. Since you have to do Christmas to some extent, you might as well have a little fun with it.
