I'm scared and I don't want to be home. Should I go to a friend?!

Question: My friends dad works overseas, and he left yesterday. She is the only person I can sleep over at. I don't want to be home , b/c my brother has a temper and today he told me that I should die b/c I am abusive towards others. And it really hurt my feelings so I didn't want to look at him, or anything. So then I was listening to music and then he told me to put it softer and I didnt hear so he came at me with a broomstick and was yellling. luckily my mother stopped him. Should I stick around at home? or can I go to my friend rather? What do you think?

Do you think that it is apropriate (sp?) since her dad just went overseas yesterday?

Answers: I think it's okay to go to your friend's place, as long as it's okay with her, and her mother.
More importantly, what is your mother doing about your brother's behaviour? If she's just accepting it, she needs to get a grip and realise it's not going to fix itself. He's obviously got issues, and needs to be seeing a counsellor. Make sure and tell her that, if she hasn't worked it out already. You shouldn't have to put up with violence in your own home.
If your mother won't do anything about it, and he tries to get violent with you again, go to the police. Seriously, you don't need to put up with that, so if no-one else will fix the problem, you need to do something about it yourself.
In the short-term, yes, it's okay to stay with your friend as long as it's okay with her.
