Question: And if someone is driving you crazy....

*** and you have a year lease with them***

and they won't leave you alone - mentally/emotionally and they just don't stop until after your in tears and balling and kicking and screaming LEAVE ME ALONE and you've locked yourself in the bathroom and they still don't stop and they just keep going

what do you do???

Answers: I would suggest contacting your local abuse support center. I'm not sure if this is an ex-friend, ex-boyfriend, family member, etc. but it sounds very abusive. They feel they have control over you because of the year lease and your reactions indicate that they are correct in their assumptions. I know it can be difficult to control your reactions when someone is constantly pushing your buttons, but it may be necessary. I was once told that we train people how to treat us. You can begin training, but it's a difficult process. A therapist or someone who has dealt with emotional abuse can help you with it.

One of the major concerns is that emotional abuse can lead to physical abuse. Escalating is a known part of the abusive cycle. My advice is to leave the apartment for good, lease or no lease. But first, can you get one of those little recorders to document how the abuse goes? If you have that and can give it to the police, landlord, etc. in an effort to get your name removed from the lease, I think it may help you. A reasonable judge wouldn't expect someone to stay in abusive conditions because of a piece of paper.

Document as much as you can. Keep a notebook with dates and times and everything that happens until you can leave. Be as accurate as possible. Record as much as you can. Let as many people as you can know about what is happening. The more witnesses or documentation you have the better. If you go to a safe house to escape the abuse, that may be a good step because it will be documented that you felt afraid enough to desperately seek help.
