What do you think alcoholics drink for?!

Question: I know that when i drink, i usually drink to get drunk... and that is once in a while. Maybe once every two months or so... usually when i go dancing or something... just need those extra balls (per say) to go out there and do it, ya know? But why would someone wake up and start drinking... especially when they won't remember what they did... i am not ignorant to alcoholism, i'm just curious to know if you have any good answers on what makes an alcoholic an alcoholic.

Answers: What a great question.

I beleive there is a genetic component, but environemnt plays such a huge role. We can see an increase in addictive behavior over time which points to culture, for sure. We live in a society where we feel empty, we seek escape, we seek distraction, we seek pseudo-power, we seek to escape our own personal power and responsibility. We want immediate impulsive feel-good methods. We avoid the true work of genuine fullfillment and personal power. Some people are more readily enticed with the illusion of releif of whatever the addiction offers - and I think it's because they are genetically predisposed to this condition and they have not been taught the tools they need to address the emptiness.
