Overcoming the fear of being shot? Can be depression?!
Question: I got kicked out of my cousin's house back a month ago after my father and his sister told a lie about me that wasn't even true and now I am back home with my mother after my father gave us the house and moved out and almost got into a fight with entire family until my mother got my back . someone gave me a threating words to stay off the street (maybe where my grandmother (my dad's mom) live.) and I don't go over there after the threat since.
I moved back home, I have some bad dreams of being shot by one of my family members from my dad's side. I have been living in a few for a while... even when I heard my dad's coming up today, my fear is rasing and wanting to find something in order to save myself from fighting and/or being killed. I keep on dreaming I would be killed by someone from my dad's side of the family and I feel like angery and hurt along with fear...
I am fighting against depression as well. Am I outta of my head for believe this or do I need serious help? Thanks.
Answers: I don't think there's any way for anyone here to tell how real the threat is, but the important thing is that the threat feels real to you. I would try to find an intermediary -- if not your dad, maybe you're grandmother or a priest -- and ask them to find out if the threats are genuine. If they are, you should call the police and let them contact the person who threatened you.
You obviously have anxiety over this, and it might be worth going to the doctor to see if he'll prescribe anti-anxiety medication for you to take on the worst days. Alternatively, go to a therapist (psychologist, school guidance counselor, or mental health counselor) and discuss the situation with them. They can give you tips that suit you for managing your fears and can help you figure out a realistic plan of action. Good luck.
