Changing from lithium to lamictal!? If so, how smoothly was the transition and how effective were the results of the change in regards to stability!. Thank you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I am on Lithium/Lamictal combo and is working extremely well!. The best combo or meds after 9 years of hell!. My new pdoc knew what he was doing, instead of all of those other bozo docss throwing me on this and that!.

Stick with what is working best!. I believe in both of these meds, but tend to lean towards the Lithium!. A lot of people poo-poo Lithium with complaints of weight gain and such, but it has been a godsend!. Moods are so stable, I was able to return to work full-time!.

Yep, I'm on my third new prescription in four years, about to go for a different one!.

But I change meds because the old ones have stopped working so I guess by the time I get to that point, stability has gone out the window!
So far have tried lithium, Zyprexa and Epilum!. Haven't tried lamictal thoughWww@Answer-Health@Com

oh i loooove lamictal!.
i've been on it for a year and a month now, never had to change meds cause it works incredibly well!.

you'll probably have a few withdrawal side effects but it's normal to have that!. lamictal doesn't cause people to act like zombies, gain weight, or have bad side effects plus, it's a long term medication!.!.!.!.meaning unlike lithium, you don't have to keep upping the dose!.

i have bipolar disorder type I, when i was put on lamictal it was like!.!.!.a week after i went cold turkey on lexapro because it was just making me worse times a zillion [stupid mom thought i was just depressed] but after a few weeks!.!.!.i was getting a lot better once the medicine started to work!. i mean when i was on the antidepressant [for amonth] i went NUTS!. but!.!.!.i don't know, this stuff just helps me so much!.

so don't worry, take it easy!.!.!.maybe go to some hobby store and take up painting,drawing,sculpting,whatever!.!.!.or maybe start playing the guitar or keyboard or whatever!. yoga and karate can help too :)
i rely on my musical talents to get me through angry spouts, works everytime!.

hmm i've lost weight with that and my adderall xr, i think it's just from the adderall but who knows!. my personality hasn't changed at all!.!.!.i'm still the goofy teenager i used to be!. just a lot of changes to better myself!.

just do whatever you can to succeed!. i mean, i may be only 18!.!.!.but i'm really stable!. i've learned all about self control, strength, determination, and trying damn hard to think about the positives rather than the negatives!.!.!.!.
just research!. research how to cope with everything!.!.!.!.just keep your head up high, you'll be fine soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Comebak, I wonder about those meds!.!.!.!. that was one long winded babbling response to this question!. I was imagining being with you in person, and NOT being able to CATCH up to you !

Tom, these meds are changing for the better THANK goodness!. I think you have a good answer here about the transition!. But then it is different for every person!. What affects you one way, may be an entirely different experience for another!.

All I know about these meds is that if you don't take them , that is BAD! Bipolar problems are caused by a physical defect in the chemical structure in the brain!. The meds are meant to fix that!. AND they DO when one takes them!.

The side effects of the older drugs have really been the PITS for alot though!.

Hope you get a good answer here, maybe shorter than this one!Www@Answer-Health@Com
