Alcohol causing a chemical imbalance?!

Question: Alcohol causing a chemical imbalance!?
First off, I rarely drink anymore!. But Friday I decided to go out and had enough drinks to classify myself "unable to drive"!.(and I drank tons of water shortly after) I've had my share of parties, but I'm older now and this doesn't seem to jive with my body!. I can't go to basketball practice after a hard night of drinking like I did in high school!.

For the rest of the weekend I laid around, moped, felt depressed, anxious and just generally like crap!.

What happened there!? Does alcohol do that to anyone else!? Can alcohol cause a temporary chemical imbalance!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Although many people don't think of it this way, alcohol is classified as a "depressant"!. Some people see it as more of an "upper" than a "downer" because of the giddy feelings associated with inebriation!. However, after the giddyness wears off, your body slows down, and you may get depressed!.

Also, alcohol dehydrates your body which can also make you feel yucky!. Even though you drank tons of water after drinking, the alcohol was still in your body so the water probably left your body due to the dehydrating effects of alcohol!. Feeling dehydrated and generally yucky may contribute to your depressed mood!. You should start feeling better -- Drink lots of water -- staying hydrated is best for you right now!.

Hang in there -- Feel better soon!

Ugh, yeah alcohol does do that!. I'm not a cheerful, laughing drunk!. I usually get super contemplative and drowsy (not much fun I know)!. But generally, if you're already in a bad mood or some other subconscious event is bugging you, you'll probably experience some post alcohol depression!. Maybe stay away from it!. I try to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It can!. Alcohol is a depressant, and it's effects can certainly last for a couple of days!. Also, you said that you drank alot of water afterwards, but that does not mean that you were not still dehydrated!. Dehydration is an imbalance of you electrolytes, most importantly salt and potassium levels!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Uh, YES!

Alcohol is a poison!.

Humans can tolerate low doses of it, but higher doses are toxic!. Very high doses can kill!.

Don't do it again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
