Question: I am an 18 year old college student and I am trying to convince my parents that I have ADD!?
I have trouble focusing in class, trouble studying and I procrastinate like no other!. My parents do not believe me when I say I need to see a specialist and get on some kind of medication, even if it's just to get my through school!. They believe that I am just being "lazy" and should be able to focus like my other siblings have in college!. They also feel that if I did have ADD it would have been recognized when I was younger!. I want to succeed, I want a good career; but I feel so frustrated because it truly feels like my mind can't focus and do the work!. Any advice!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

dude(same problem can relate ) talk to your councelor and let them know!. I fell you bro just han in there it will be ok!. be strong!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with them!. You wouldn't develop the disorder out of the blue!. On the other hand, had you been cheating in High School!? If so, maybe you do have ADD, it has gone unnoticed, because you never said anything before!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

youre in the real world now, therefore you need to learn how to deal with focusing on one thing without the normal issues of daily life get in the way!. you just dont 'get' add!. if you dont learn how to deal with real life, then youll have much more than a focus issue when you get older!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with your parents!. If you think you have ADD then I doubt you do - you wouldn't notice it like this!.

We all go through periods of procrastination and being unfocused (I'm meant to be doing my dissertation for uni right now!), but you've just got to try and pull yourself through it!.

ADD is an easy way out, as then it's not your fault and a pill will/may help!.

You need to assess in your life what's troubling you and just motivate yourself as much as you can, even if you don't feel like it!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You might not have ADD!. You're young and, frankly, your body and brain are still changing!. There's a lot going on as you discover your independence, your sexuality, your interests, the way you relate to people as an adult, and so on!. Chances are your college offers some sort of counseling!. Why don't you go there and discuss your situation with them!? Before turning to medication, which mostly doesn't do all that much good, look into diet, exercise, self-hypnosis, meditation, and other methods!. Again, medication often isn't very helpful, has undesirable side effects, and finding the right medication can take more time than you think!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you are 18, and an adult!. book your own doctors appt!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are 18 and really believe there is a problem then you should have it checked out yourself!.Maybe you are lazy, maybe its ADD but you need to take the necessary actions to find out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You're old enough to take responsibility!. If you truly need medical or psychological help, go get it! But then live with the consequences (bills, therapy, rehabilitation)!. You will have to decide if the cure is better than the disease, or if you can provide your own cure with a little of what your mom and dad might describe as "elbow grease"!. If I were you, I would put more effort into my work and I bet the problems would be solved!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi,
there are special tests you can take to know if you have ADD!. you can google it!.
if you get mixed up while reading and reads micro as macro or vice versa, you could have ADD!.
anyway, it's worthwhile to see a specialist, just to relieve your anxieties anyway!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
