Hypochondria?!

Question: Hypochondria!?
Is there anything you can do to treat/get rid of Hypochondria!?

I constantly convince myself that I am ill and it is starting to ruin my life!.

People don't seem to think that it's a serious issue due to the fact that I am able to state that I am a hypochondriac and joke about it, however I really do think it is a problem!.

I'm constantly having self-inflicted panic attacks because I believe that I am seriously ill!.

Last night I was up the whole night as I was convinced I was going to have a heart attack (due to my left arm being numb - even though I knew that it was repetitive strain injury and had been like that for months)

I also keep convincing myself that I have cancer!. I know I'm imagining it, but sometimes these thoughts just completely take over and I panic!.

Even if I have a headache, I will convince myself that it's something serious!.

Is there any way to stop this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Hypochondria is often a chronic condition!. It can last for years because it's difficult to overcome deeply ingrained beliefs that you have a physical disease!.

Psychotherapy is the primary treatment for hypochondria!. Some research shows that a form of psychotherapy called cognitive behavior therapy is most effective for hypochondria!.

Medications!. Certain antidepressant medications may be helpful in treating hypochondria!. Some research indicates that both selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) may help relieve such symptoms as anxiety, fear of disease and somatic problems!. However, these medications can cause side effects that may actually increase your health anxiety because you may wind up attributing them to a serious physical problemWww@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like it's anxiety based, I know mine is!. I let every symptom worry me til it's out of control if I'm not careful!.

Stay away from self-diagnosis sites like webmd, they can be useful but if you have every symptom to search for it can make you freak out more!.

For me it takes talking to a doctor and medication to manage my anxiety!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

do what the dude above me said and if he isnt still above me i was talking about "DOCTOR"Www@Answer-Health@Com

you need to talk to a therapist that specializes in this so that can give you tips and a plan to control those thoughts!. when those thoughts enter your mind, stand up to them!. say "no! i know i do not have cancer!. i am not going to have a heart attack!. and if i do i will go and get treatment and begin to feel better!. until then there is no reason to waste my time and energy worrying about it!" i know it's hard but you can do it!. god bless!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Find a therapist with experience in treating this condition!. It won't be easy or quick, but it can be overcome!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unfortunately I cannot offer a solution because I have the same problem!. I can sympathize with you, though, and I hope you can find an end to it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have the same thing happen to me, where i wake up and my left arm is numb and then i start to panic-- feel like i am having a heart attack!.
