Answers:
Go to bed the same time every night!.
The old saying (an hour before midnight is worth 2 after), is true!
Ensure the room as dark as possible, if you have to go to bed during daylight hours, wear an eye-mask!.
Ensure the bedroom and the bed are not too hot!.
Don't drink caffeinated drinks 3 hours before bedtime!.
Have a warm milky drink before bedtime, Oveltine a good one!.
Wear ear plugs if you live in a noisy area!.
Invest in a good bed, you're going to spend a third of your life on it so make it a good one!.
Hold an imaginary meeting in your head, gets me to sleep!
Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have insomnia also!. I spoke to my doctor and he just said no caffiene and no tv, no computer for a couple of hours before bed!. That didn't sound like too much fun for me!. I have sleeping tablets occasionally but i dont want to become addicted to them so usually i just put up with and have a bad nights sleep!. There is a natural herb called Valerian which is a natural sleeping tablet and i have heard that it is great!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Setting a bedtime routine really helps- make sure you wind down, maybe read a book!.
Don't drink any caffeine in the evening and have a cup of warm milk before you go to bed!.

There a lot of herbal remedies you can get at the pharmacy which might help you to get to sleep!.

But it might be anxiety or stress that is keeping you awake and waking you up at unusual hours!.

Might be an idea to see your GP to see if there is an underlying problem!.

try to take a relaxing bath before going to bed, and maybe have a glass of warm milk!. there are over the counter sleep aids, such as tylenol or advil pm that are non-habit forming!.

trying to eliminate stressors from your life helps too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well there are 2 big camps, lifestyle changes and medication!.
As far as medication, I am on Vistaril (aka Atarax), Ambien, Trazodone, and Restoril!.
(I used to be on only the Vistaril and Ambien and had MAJOR problems, I've had insomnia all my life)!.

The lifestyle changes include not drinking caffeine after about noon, (I tried a month with NO caffeine though and there was no change for me), eating differently (check link below), reading before bedtime to tire yourself out (doesn't always work -- especially if you're reading a good book!.!.!.try and pick a dull one), exercising!.

There are also natural "remedies" including Valerian Root and Melatonin!.

Hope this helps, insomnia is horrible!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have insomnia for a few years now, and what helps is cut the caffeine intake, try not to do exercises two hours before sleeping, no TV, computers or video games before sleeping!.
Try to read a good book and take a bath with a lavender scent, as it has a calming and sleeping affect!. Make sure that your room isn't too warm, because that can keep you up and wear socks, because cold feet can make you feel less comfy and keep you up!. Drinking milk helps too as certain teas!. A lot of pharmacies have them, those relaxing teas have Valerian in them and Chamomile!.Make sure that you talk to the pharmacist first as some of them cannot be mixed with medications!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have got insomniac kids and a stressful life and when I fall out of a sleep pattern I use KALMS!. They are natural and have no lasting effect, I used to take one in the morning and another at lunchtime because I was having bad panic attacks and then two before bed!. It didn't take long to relax me down!. Now I just take 2 of a night if I haven't slept in more than 3 nights or if I have something important going on the next day and need to have slept!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm trying to practice Buddhist meditation for quite a long time now, but I noticed from the start that evening meditation before going to bed would be very good in calming the mind down, and I'd get to sleep a lot faster!.
When I started to do 10-20 minutes of meditation, I would fall asleep after some 15-30 minutes instead of lying and turning over and over again for an hour or more, so it would actually save me time! Due to the calming effect, also I wake up less in the middle of the night!.
It does take a while to learn though, but the side-effects are only positive :-)
My website below describes quite a number of meditation techniques, in the beginning it would be best to stick to the simple breathing meditations!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
