There is a boy at my sons school that tried to kill himself for the 4th time last night!. He is 18 and has refused treatment at a mental facility and his parents dont seem interested in getting power of attorney over him to help him!. His mother was actually heard saying she wishes he would just kill himself and get it over so she could clean upi the mess and move on!.
This boy has lots of friends that care about him but he is 18 and an adult!. What can we do as friends to help him!.

Nothing!.!.!.you cannot force an adult into treatment for any type of problem in the US unless he is declared a harm to himself or others, and apparently the treatment facility must think that he is an attention seeker!.!.!.in other words he tells them that he is trying to kill himself, and then commits an act that will certainly draw attention to himself, but knows will not kill him!. Which is why nothing is being done to keep him for a longer period of time or why his Mum and Dad haven't gone to get a guardianship and have him declared unstable and unable to make these decisions for himself!.
The United States requires a court hearing if the individual is hospitalized more than briefly!. In most states, police officers and designated mental health professionals can certify the brief commitment of an individual for psychiatric evaluation!. If the individual is evaluated as needing further hospitalization, a court order must be obtained!. Doctors, psychologists and/or psychiatrists present written reports to the court and in some cases testify before the judge!. The person who is involuntarily hospitalized, in most U!.S!. jurisdictions, has access to counsel!. A commitment is always time-limited and requires reevaluation at fixed intervals!. It is also possible for a patient to challenge the commitment through habeas corpus!.
His parents cannot get a power of attorney over him, he would have to be ruled by a judge as being not capable of making decisions for himself (Incapacitated) and then they would be allowed to file for guardianship ( different than a POA) over him as a person and his estate (allowed to make his decisions for him)!. Under the law in most states they can only hold him for 72 hours involuntarily, and possibly for 14 days, if he is considered to be "Gravely Disabled" or imminent danger!.!.!.as in murderous, or has committed a murder, etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

sounds like he needs alot of prayer!. is he still living at home or can he stay with a friend!?If he is living with a good friend, the friend might be able to intervene before he gets to the point of hurting himself!. the only other thought would be to alert the police and maybe they can advise on where to get help!. if it is reported then they can intervene on his part!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

take him to a third world country and then he will see the importance of life ,people have no food or money yet they don't kill themselves and some are happier than us, even if we have money or food!.i also think he is looking for attention or loveWww@Answer-Health@Com
yea u need to be there for him!.!.!.obviously his mom doesnt give a ****!.!.but friends r always the ones to come through!. go over there and talk to him everyday!. give him ur number if he doesnt already have it!.!.!.and say "u can call me for anything!.!.if ur feeling depressed or angry!.!.anything that makes u think u wanna hurt urself then call me" he needs someone!.!.and my question is why is trying to kill himself!?!.!.is he just a suicidal person!?!.!.!.he has to have a reason!.!.bad childhood!?!.!.heartbreak!? and a good song i recommend for this situation is the beltsville crucible by thrice!. and never too late by three days grace!. u must be a friend!.!.and dont let him have sharp objects or anything he can use to get the job done!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The next time he "attempts" to commit suicide call the police!. They will be required to investigate!. If this boy was REALLY suicidal he would not be telling everyone how much he wants to die!. Truley suicidal people don't tell anyone about it, they just go off somewhere and kill themselves!. Most of the time when a person is successful in committing suicide, the family and friends had no idea they were that troubled!. This boy is wanting attention!. Maybe it is attention that his mother should be paying to him!.
Have an intervention, get some of his closest friends, no more then two or three, sit him down face to face and tell him first that you all care about him and what happens to him, then ask him why he is so troubled that he wants to kill himself!. However that is not what this lad needs now!.
He has to be somewhere safe and get clinically un depressed!.
He has the power to change himself by seeing the solution!.!.!.
facts help a great deal:
He was made in Gods image and God loves him no matter what, if his parents are toxic then he should move on himself into a loving family; church, friends or someone that can listen and share!.
A person just sees darkness and at that point can't be helped unless brain chemistry changes!.
Antidepressants with loving help is the answer to break the brain chemical low or high serotonin levels!.
This seems to me to be a problem that has lasted too long and this kind of brain injury can happen if left unchecked!.
I am a past victim of this and tried to commit suicide myself, but am well adjusted and can now be supportive because of the wounded heart syndrome!. It seems like no one knows the pain unless you have been there yourself and when you have you maybe able to help more than someone that has never been there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This may not really be urgent at all!. You say 4 attempts!. That is a lot to not succeed!. He may be going through some tough times in his mind!. By telling people or "attempting" he is trying to find someone to give him a solution!. The problem is not suicide but the problem is what is making this kid feel hopeless!. You can't just lock this kid up and solve the problem!. He needs help finding a solution to his hopelessness!. There could be a million reasons why at his age he is hopeless!. Maybe he does not like something about him self like his sexuality!. Maybe he has a distorted self image!. Maybe he is fixated on a girl who he cannot have!. Maybe he is very smart and struggling with the apparent chaos in the universe!. Who knows!? You need to find out what is wrong and gently assist him in resolving it!. I think the worst thing to do is get the poor guy into the mental health system!. All they will do is drug him and do some possible therapy!. And they are very very bad at therapy!. Has anyone probed deeply into why he says he wants to die!? Tried to see it from his side!? Possibly then in a non judgmental way help him find resolution!? I would befriend him and find out what the heck is going on!. Or tell his friends what I said and have them help!. If he is not hearing voices or seeing things or completely delusional then shrinks are a waste of time and could really humilate him and further destroy his self image!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Call the police and get them to put him observation!. Other than that you need to get the parnts to start caring!. If you really want to do something to hel try to convince him to move in with you!. that is the only thing you can do if he doesn't want to help himself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
