Prescription Prices?!

Question: Prescription Prices!?
My 21 year old son takes depakote 250mg!. A few months ago I bought the prescription for $45!.He asked for some help with his medicine again I didn't have a problem helping out!.(he has no Insurance)I called in the refill and to my jaw dropping surprise the same medicine same mg!. and same quantity is now $178!!
How can this be !? I asked if they had a generic version of depakote and they said no!.
I was just wondering how you see and hear in the news , online , and on tv , about rising gas prices, but this problem you don't!.
Maybe there is some reason I don't understand , if anyone has any input , it would be greatly appreciated!.
Thank youWww@Answer-Health@Com

Unfortunately, drug prices are set by the manufacturers!. They have at least 10 years to recoup the money they spent researching and developing their new drug before a generic is allowed to come out!.

Was he on the regular Depakote 250 mg and is now on Depakote ER (extended release) 250 mg!? That may explain the price difference!. If not, I'm not sure what may have caused it!.

Because there is no generic, many people qualify for prescription assistance through the drug companies!. Check out the Depakote website at www!.depakote!.com for more info on prescription assistance!.

Best of luck to you and your son! Hang in there!Www@Answer-Health@Com

well, there is some program that pays in full or most of the cost for psychiatric medication!.!.!.!.not sure, it could be like medicaid or whatever, you'd haveta look it up!.

i take Lamictal 150mg and Adderall XR 20mg, which is 80 bucks a month!.!.!.!.and that's with my parents insurance [still a minor]!.!.!.and i mean, we have a pretty tight budget!.!.!.!.so it is pretty expensive if ya think about it!.!.!.cause, i'm one of 4 kids, moms a school teacher, dad hasta travel for his job, city house[living in the city, very pricey] soo i bet ya understand that!.!.

i HATE how the media only talks about disorders/meds when someone supposively who had a disorder goes out and kills someone!.!.!.!.have you noticed that!? that's all they want the 'normal' people to care about!. which is scary, i have to be cautious when it comes to telling someone new i have bipolar disorder and ADHD cause i don't want to scare them off!.

so anyways, sorry about the babbling!.
he should start going to WalMart!. they have pretttty cheap costs for prescription meds!. or look up some financial help for psychiatric medications!.

i know there will be a generic of lamictal in june or july, but i don't have a clue about anything else!.!.!.!.
but just do some research!. definitely feel your pain when it comes to this!.!.!.!.people with disorders are treated like crap when they don't deserve it!.!.!.just wish meds weren't so expensive! it's like, k in order for you to function like a normal human being, you must fork over 100 bucks!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only saving grace for me when I had no insurance was Walmart pharmacy with the cheaper prices!. Doctors will sometimes give the patients samples or refer them to local charities to help out, also!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have you tried Wal-Mart!. Many of their prescription medications are $4!.00!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
