Question about nicotine addiction...?!

Question: Question about nicotine addiction!.!.!.!?
This might sound like a dumb question but how does one know when they're "addicted" to nicotine!? I have been smoking cigarettes off and on since high school (I'm now 29) and I can't say that I'm addicted, per se, but sometimes I kinda "crave" a cigarette!. If I ignore the feeling then it will pass and I won't crave it again for the rest of the day!.

What happens in one's mind and body during a nicotine craving once someone is officially "addicted"!? It is different for everyone, or does eveybody exhibit the same type of feelings!?

I don't think I have that "addictive personality" that people talk about!. I don't think I've ever felt dependent on a substance, so I am not sure I know what it's like!. Please help answer my question!. Thanks! ^_^Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nicotine addiction is hard to measure quantitatively!. It's really about your level of craving and increase in nicotine use!. Most of the time addiction is determined through a withdrawal syndrome, but with nicotine, the withdrawal is also hard to quantify!.

If you can go a few days without a cigarette and without thinking about having a cigarette, like you forget about it, then chances are very good that you are not addicted!.

If you continue chipping like you're doing (having cigarettes occasionally) chances are very good that you will become addicted and then you will become a more regular smoker!. Then it's really hard to quit!.

If you can walk way from it now, WALK AWAY!Www@Answer-Health@Com

for me, addiction is when one can't "ignore the feeling then it will pass!. !. " Addiction is when the feeling can't be ignored, gets in the way of your concentration, ability to function, and goes against what you really want to do (i!.e!., not smoke, for example)Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not just an addictive personality that makes you addicted to nicotine, there are chemicals that interact with receptors in your brain that cause you to crave it!. Most heavy smokers cannot go too long without nicotine!. They are irritable, anxious, feel sluggish, have difficulty concentrating, and tend to feel restless!. My father is in his 50's and has been smoking since he was about 12-13, you can definitely tell when he hasn't had a cigarette from his mood change!. Nicotine doesn't create euphoria like most other drugs, but it is completely addictive!. Even though you may have been smoking for a decent amount of time, you still may not be addicted!. Most addictions you just cannot stop thinking about the substance, you can't ignore the feeling, it nearly consumes you when the addiction gets really bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
