PLEASE HELP. Is it normal.. for me to be doing this?!

Question: PLEASE HELP!. Is it normal!.!. for me to be doing this!?
I'm forever, checking cups and spoons, forks, etc!. and washing them, under the tap!. I can't help it!. I do it automatically, as if the dishwasher hadn't done its job properly or as if!.!. it was dirty!. I do this with bowls!.!. too!.
I also, put toilet paper on the toilet seat and won't sit on it, even though!.!. my family uses it!. It is very weird!. I don't even use the school toilets, as I feel it is dirty!. I won't use toilet paper, that was last touched, so!.!. I have to rip lots of sheets off, before I do so!.
I don't wash my hands, too much!.!. I used too when we had a dog and she used to slobber a lot!. I actually made my hands red and sore, due to that!.

Is this normal behaviour!?
How can I snap out of this cycle!?

My father seems to find it annoying, since he cleans his cutlery and I'm standing there, putting it under tap water again!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your just a germaphobic perfectionist!. We all have, well!.!.!. how to put this!.!.!. out of the ordinary habits!. It's fine! Try looking at it from an optomistic perspective like: Well, since I do this so much, I really care about my health, so I won't be one of those teenagers who mess up their teenage life!.
Hope I Helped!

I agree with the person who says that it sounds like you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)!. In that case, it's not something you "snap out" of!. OCD is an anxiety disorder and the little rituals you've been doing are called compulsions, i!.e!., you feel compelled to do them even though you know it's not rational!. These compulsions are actually a way for you to relieve anxiety and you end up feeling VERY anxious if you don't do them!. Don't let anyone tell you that you're weird -- you're not!. OCD is a legitimate mental illness and there are treatments for it!. The best treatment typically includes some sort of mental health therapy coupled with psychopharmacological (i!.e!., prescription drug) therapy!. Antidepressants are often used to treat OCD and can be quite effective!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

could be ocd!. i do most of those same things!. i always check dishes and silverware and generally wash it off again before i use it!. i don't like using public toilets unless it's an absolute emergency!. i do have ocd tendencies, but my doctor told me that if it's not getting in the way of living life, and it's not really affecting life then there's no need to worry or need for medication!. if you feel it's affecting your life negatively definitely go see a doctor!.

you sound just like me by the wayWww@Answer-Health@Com

Your problem is obsessive /compulsive behaviour and is based on fear, you need to stop and think each time you wash up or whatever and stop and think what if I didn't repeat myself, what would happen!? it is a learning process and must be done with slowness and deliberation to teach your brain to change the way you think, your family should be helping you with understanding and patience!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am not a doctor but only in my opinion can i say that you have classic symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder defined as a disorder in which individuals are plagued by persistent, recurring thoughts (obsessions) that reflect exaggerated anxiety or fears!. Or an anxiety disorder characterised by repeated intrusive thoughts and associated ritualised behaviours intended to alleviate that anxiety!. Go to your doctor and tell him/her what's going on with you, there are behaviour modification programs you can do to stop the ritual habits!. Good luck, i know it's tough!. It is not typical behaviour to wash your hands two to three times after toileting nor re-washing dishes!. With OCD a thought, fear or idea gets stuck in your brains neurons and keeps jumping back and forth not allowing you to progress until the synapse connection gets blocked by a distraction or it settles on it's own!. I would print out this question and answers and take it to a doc!. I do the repetitive words and prayers as well, part of that ritualistic habit is called religiosity again it is based on the fear that something bad will happen if you don't repeat words or phrases, prayers, numbers etc!. My mom has had accute OCD for her whole life and it's challenging but totally manageable!. Take it easy girl!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
