If mental disease is genetic, how come these genes are not eradicated?!

Question: If mental disease is genetic, how come these genes are not eradicated!?
Humans have a history of mating with healthy people!. Then how come people with mental disease succeeded all these years in passing on their genes!?

For the good of humanity, aren't we better off without these genes!? I wish I was better off!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you just stumbled across one of the problems with the theory of evolution !. !. !.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well DNA testing wasn't used officially until the 90s even though people had used them for years before that!. We have all the greatest geneticists in the world working on just what you have said!. They can't just eradicate it like its a weed or something!. This is major medical research, yes they have learnt to take certain genes out of a persons DNA but not all yet!. They still have to find some of the genes that cause which problem is which!. They are getting closer though & that's why people like Christopher Reeve put a lot of money into research - hoping to find cure for quadraplegia and other things too!. All this research takes money & if you really wish it would happen sooner than later as you have problems then you should think of some ways to raise money!. Hey even if it's busking ( every cent counts ) It's very hard these days to choose a charity as soooo many are ringing or door knocking trying to raise money for different charities, so you have to get behind your cause and do something & maybe your family can help too!. Good luck for now and the future cos there will be a future to look forward too!. CheersWww@Answer-Health@Com

For one thing, one cannot just eradicate these genes!. Genes are the smallest unit of heredity and it is not exactly macroscopic for scientists to just up and pluck them!. Genetics is a particularly tricky matter, because this field of science is more on probabiluty!. Genetics not only deals with the heredity of traits and characters, it also deals on the mishaps that may happen as an embryo develops into a full human being!.
As for mental diseases, it is not necessarily the best thing in the world, but we have to cope up with what we are equipped with!. Everyone is created uniquely, and I'm not talking about religion (it's still the probability of Genetics)!. Genes are what our parents passed down to us (think of a family heirloom), and if not for these genes, who could say that you are a human being!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is not a problem with the near fact of evolution, it is proof of it!. human advancement allows those who are not the fittest to also survive, hence the population being more than the earth can naturally support!. I am depressed and so have my ancestors been!. it sucks and i wish the genes did not exist, but that would entale quarentining or castrating everyone with depression(and also all other genetic defects if you are gonna do depression, why allow diabetes or balding or disease)!. since we believe all people are created equal we cant do this!. luckily science and psychology are making progress and maybe someday through genetic engineering we can get rid of it without killing out those who are depressed!.

kelly- while it is possible for you to be the first one in your family to have it, it is also possible that other family members just werent diagnosed since psychology is a fairly new field!. genetic problems do have to start somewhere though, it could have been from a pollutant you were exposed to before you were born or something traumatic in your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Often genius is associated with personality oddities (eccentricity) or even mental disease!. Where would the world be without great discoveries, music and art!.
I think humanities evolution would be very slow if we didn't have a few (slightly) crazy people!.
More importantly mental illness is only partially influenced by genetics and differs greatly in severity!. I suspect people with severe mental illness don't father too many offspring!.
So don't beat yourself up if you are a little crazy - your son/daughter could be the next Albert Einstein or Van GoughWww@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think that most of the mental diseases are genetic infact most of these mental probs are arising from food we eat b/c it's been treated with pesticide and gen!. modified!. also even the water (which has been proven recently) to contain a lot of residue of prescription medicines a big effect (in usa)!. also dep!., anxiety, add,etc!.!.!.are most of the times misdiagnosed!. another thing is that we're still going thru evolution, our bodies are still evolving!. Disorders like schizophrenia or multiple personality ones are really hard to find origin of, so i don't if those ppl even mate a lot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are right that we try to mate with healthy people, but mental disorders can strike a healthy person at any time of their life!. The reason that the genes have not been eradicated, is like all other gene research, they don't know which ones are the culprits!. They only know that mental disease is genetic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Many of the things we call 'disorders' are actually beneficial for survival, that's why!. Survival is a 'very complicated' process, it isn't simple at all, and so what modern society calls a disorder, sometimes relates ONLY to modern society, and not to ACTUAL SURVIVAL!. Think of some mental disorders and imagine how they might help one survive, for example ADHD, Manic Depressive, etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well i dont know where my mental illness has come from because im the first in both sides of my family to suffer from it!. but if u happen to find the answer let me know!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
