I am not but lithium is commonly used for Bipolar II disorder!. here are the common side effects:
Increased frequency of urination or loss of bladder control - more common in women than in men, usually beginning 2 to 7 years after start of treatment; increased thirst; nausea (mild); trembling of hands (slight) !.

Wow, a bunch of ppl who obviously have no clue what it is to be bipolar spouted off!.
I take Lithium!. If I get dehydrated, I get a very slight tremor in my left hand!. That's about it!. I really like Li!. It works on the manicky symptoms and supplement the antidepressant action of Lamictal!. It's also the most neuroprotective of the stabilizers!. There's current research indicating that it not only protects the brain but may also help heal some of the damage!. Further, they are now looking at this "re-found" med in research on other neurological disorders like Parkinsons, Alheimers, etc!. Good stuff if you are in the 50% who respond w/o significant side effects!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My wife takes lithium for BP1!. The most important thing to remember is to drink lot's of liquids as lithium will dehydrate you!. The tremors that another member mentioned are also true with my wife!.
As for weight gain, my wife actually lost several pounds at first taking lithium!. So gain is not a sure thing!.
I will also say that for any negatives, it has been a wonderful thing for both my wife, and our relationship!.

I've been on lithium for years!.
I gained weight!. I pee a lot!. My skin was on fire for the first few weeks and feels that way if I don't get enough water!. I can't be in the sun for too long!. I'm tired alot!. I do not have totally solid bowel movements!.
I have gotten used to these!. I would much rather have these side effects than an acute manic episode with psychotic features!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am also bipolar and was once put on lithium, and I had bad side affects!. I just felt like I wanted to hurt people, just very snappy, and angry!. I am now on Wellbutrin and I like it better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
It dosn't matter about side effects!. Do take it as it will be worth it for your sake in the long run!. Different people react to it!.
