Answers:
psychosis is a severe mental disorder in which the individual loses contact with reality!. can be caused by overwhelming trauma!. could be trauma from ones childhood, such as childhood abuse!. sexual or otherwise!.
symptoms are that a person views life with a distorted way!. three main forms of psychosis are generally recognized, although the symptoms overlap and there is considerable debate as to whether each is truly a separate category!. they are schizophrenia, manic-depressive illness, and organic brain syndrome!. paranoid illness is sometimes referred to as the fourth form of psychosis!. symptoms: delusions, hallucinations, thought disorder, loss of effect (emotion) mania, and depression!. antipsychotic drugs are usually very effective!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Psychosis from a psychiatric perspective generally means hallucinating (seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, tasting things that are not real - shadow ppl on the wall, trolls running on the floor, hearing voices, fingers running up and down the body) and delusions (believing things that clearly are not real - like the hallucinations, or that the TV is sending private messages, your cat is controlling your thoughts, your are God, etc)!. Delusions can occur w/o hallucinations!. Extreme paranoia is a common example!. Another is believing something that is harmful is the right thing to do!. It is a break with reality, whereas one can hallucinate while knowing that it is not real!.

There also is disorganized thinking which again from a psychiatric perspective often is a person getting the hallucinations, delusions, and reality all jumbled and so having a hard time thinking clearly and communicating!.

When psychosis starts, a fair number of ppl know something is not right!. They never heard voices before, for example and know it shouldn't happen!. It can be very difficult to know when there are delusions and the person believes it's all real!. Then, medication that helps it stop also helps the ppl learn what's "normal" and what's not!. Then they can learn when to rely on other people for a "reality check" and how to differentiate for themselves!.

There also are psychotic personality disorders for lack of a better term!. These include something more like magical thinking - believing in werewolves and vampires and fairies, maybe some thought broadcasting and other more minor symptoms!. These ppl believe these things are true but to a lessor degree and also know that others don't share their beliefs!. They are not quite delusions and they don't include hallucinations!. Often they are given medication just like those with delusions and hallucinations!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Psychosis is a generic psychiatric term for a mental state often described as involving a "loss of contact with reality!." People suffering from it are said to be psychotic!.

People experiencing psychosis may report hallucinations or delusional beliefs, and may exhibit personality changes and disorganized thinking!. This may be accompanied by unusual or bizarre behaviour, as well as difficulty with social interaction and impairment in carrying out the activities of daily living!.

A wide variety of nervous system stressors, both organic and functional, can cause a psychotic reaction!. This has led to the belief that psychosis is the 'fever' of mental illness
