Can I take a year off from school to to deal with a mental disorder?!

Question: Can I take a year off from school to to deal with a mental disorder!?
I'm a sophomore and I'd like to take a year off before my junior year to deal with a mental disorder!. Is there a responsible way I can do this that won't look bad on a college application!? I need a break from regular high school life, but its not like I need to stay in bed all day!. Because my family is actually a part of the problem (my dad has a personality disorder that has and still does negatively influence me) "going away" to anywhere would actually be good!. Are there any gap year programs, that generally are meant for high school graduates, that'll accept a non-high school graduate!? I have relatives who live in NYC who would be willing to take me, could I take a year off just working and getting treatment there!? Little facts that might help: i am a citizen of both america and the philippines, i've been studying French for 3 years and speak it decently, my disorder is serious but I am not a threat to myself or people around me!.

I am pretty sure that you have to be 16!. I say this because you have to be 16 to drop out (I know that you aren't dropping out, though)!. You should talk to your parents!. If they think that it's okay, then talk to your school (guidance counseler, principal, and/or school board)!.

I think that you should do a study-abroad program!. You would go either through an entire school year or through an entire year!. It looks great to colleges and you may even be able to go to a school or college and get credits (either for high school or college)!. AFS is a good study-abroad program!. http://usa!.afs!.org/usa_en/homeWww@Answer-Health@Com

You should have a school counselor you can talk to about this!. School counselors have to stay current on how to deal with situations such as yours!.

Also, if you have a serious mental disorder, you should already be under the care of a psychologist and you should also discuss this with the psychologist!. If you think that moving to NYC to live with relatives and not going to a psychologist is a solution, you are wrong!.

If your 16 you can drop out legally, no questions asked!. Just go to your schools office and tell the secretary's to take your name out of the school database because you are dropping out!. Taking a year off school is dropping out!. What you want to do here pretty much is drop out of high school with the intention of returning in one year!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why is no one else speaking up to this as being a bad idea! We all have problems! Everyone! You walk by people everyday at your school who have it worse than you do, and you would never know it! If you "take a year off" to work on your problems, you will make a career of taking time off to deal! This is where you need to make a stand and work towards being a functional human being!. This is where you work on your problem!. Unless you have a Personality disorder that taking time off is going to "cure", you need to learn to cope!. Don't take time off!Www@Answer-Health@Com
