Can I take a year off from high school to to deal with a mental disorder?!

Question: Can I take a year off from high school to to deal with a mental disorder!?
I'm a sophomore and I'd like to take a year off before my junior year to deal with a mental disorder!. Is there a responsible way I can do this that won't look bad on a college application!? I need a break from regular high school life, but its not like I need to stay in bed all day!. Because my family is actually a part of the problem (my dad has a personality disorder that has and still does negatively influence me) "going away" to anywhere would actually be good!. Are there any gap year programs, that generally are meant for high school graduates, that'll accept a non-high school graduate!? I have relatives who live in NYC who would be willing to take me, could I take a year off just working and getting treatment there!? Little facts that might help: i am a citizen of both america and the philippines, i've been studying French for 3 years and speak it decently, my disorder is serious but I am not a threat to myself or people around me!.

Yes, of course you can take a year off from high school to take care of something of such vital importance as your mental health!. Moreover, there's no need to hide it from anyone in the future!. It will be seen as a necessary and valid sabbatical!.

Don't hesitate to take advantage of this opportunity!.!.!.I took two years off from college (took a sabbatical) and was welcomed back with joy and happiness!. (PS With the disorder out of the way, I was able to concentrate more on my studies; not only did I enjoy school more, I graduated Suma *** Laude, Phi Kappa Phi --national honor society!. There's something awry with the program it won't allow me to spell ***!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not a good idea!. While your mental health is important, taking a break during your vital learning years is only going to make things worse!. I don't see why you couldn't continue high school, perhaps at a new school while staying with a relative and seek treatment after class!? Once you stop school, it is hard to go back!. I think stopping and starting again is only going to add stress to your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends!. Some schools let you take a semester off or a couple of quarters if you were on the quarter system!. Whatever the case, use the max time allowed!. The application process takes a long time!. Go to counseling in school!. There are people who can help you!. Talk it over!. It is good to vent!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why not go to school and get treatment for a year in NYC!? That would be better for your education, your development, and your mental health!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It will not only look bad on your college application, but the rest of your life will have that onus carried along with you, and you DEFINITELY don't want that hanging on, as it will!. As a mental health professional with 20+ years experience, now retired, I can agree with "gotta luv da Li" when they recommend getting treatment for a year while going to school!. Outpatient treatment is very effective and won't mess up your life like inpatient treatment or "taking a sabbatical" for your well being!. God Bless you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
