Sometimes a patient may not respond to an antidepressant after a long period of time because their drug receptors become less sensitive to the drug!. This is called tachyphylaxis and is relatively rare!. Most often with antidepressant therapy, when a patient fails on a current drug regimen it is usually because they require higher doses to treat the depression that what they are currently taking!. The highest dose of Lexapro I have seen has been 40 mg daily and for Wellbutrin I have seen up to 450 mg daily in divided doses!. So, patients may require even higher doses but the literature doesn't support using doses above what I mention above!. For both of these drugs, the side effect usually is excitation and sleeplessness!. If you are feeling like you want to sleep, then that may be a sign that your doses are too low or that you may need a new drug regimen that is more effective!. It is important for you to get back to the doctor and let him/her know what you are experiencing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, they stop working!. I know it's a horrible thing when they stop!. I've been told that after a period of time your body absorbs the meds and run on a inward intake where if you miss a day of taking your meds there's still enough in you to make up for that day because you've taken it for so long!. However, for us bipolar people our emotioonals can rapidly change and grow stronger!. Therefore, the doseage that we're supplied is no longer working and is considered a low doseage!. Call your docter and tell him everything you posted up here!. Good luck, I promise you'll be better!.<3Www@Answer-Health@Com
