I think the answer is in the middle between Packer
and Bernie!. Brernie, we are not discussing funny issues here and I do care it you call if mental illness or breakdown, they are all the same!. Could you please refrain from being so hostile and negative!. Packer I agree with you!.

My cousin had a "Nervous Breakdown" and was in the hospital for 6 weeks!. This was many years ago and she is doing fine now!.

I suffer from severe depression, with panic attacks!. I have tried many different meds and have not responded well to any of them!. But, I have good and bad days The panic attack and anxiety disorders seems worse to me!. Though I thought I had a nervous breakdown they have never called it that but I do!.

I am one of the ones who I guess will always have some form "Mental Illness!." I do not think I could be one hundred percent well, but I am thankful that I can function and can manage the bad days!.

As for all of us, no two cases are the same but we do share a lot in common and I am so glad that our friend is recovered!. Thank you for giving us encouragement and to keep us from giving up!. It gives us something else to hang onto!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had a nervous breakdown about 5 years ago and I still have depression, anxiety, social phoebia, bipolar, sleep problems and I'm taking up to about 10 medications a day and go to psycotherapy twice a month!. It gets better but I think you may always be on the edge at least I am, I'm not a professional so I don't know for sure, I hope you can!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My father and mother both had nervous breakdowns!. I think the best thing in the world that helped my father (who tried to commit suicide) was gardening and landscape work!. He created the most beautiful park-like yard I've ever seen over a period of thirty years!. He was always adding to it, a grove there, a garden her, a bush there, a tree over there!.!.!.!.it was an ONGOING long term art project!.!.!.a lifetime project that lasted!.!.!.!.!.that's the way I see it!.!.!.it brought him out into nature, which is naturally therapeutic!.!.!.and he also excercized every day and worked out!.!.!.!.!.Right after his nervous breakdown he took up Yoga, and I think that was a life saver for him!. He did it every evening after work!. I think all those activities helped him,!.!.!.and I think that's the key!.!.!.find something that you love to do, that's healthy for you, and do it often!. An added note, though, he took librium and an antidepressant every day, also!. The librium calmed him down, and worked wonders, too!. He needed it!. And that's OK!. SolaWww@Answer-Health@Com

You seem to suffer from depression! Talk to your family physician!.

The first step to getting appropriate treatment, for depression or any other emotional problem, is a complete psychological evaluation to determine whether you have a depressive illness, and if so, what type of depression!. Consultation with a psychologist will include a review of your physical health history!. Some medications as well as some medical conditions can cause symptoms of depression, so your psychologist will ask your family physician to rule out these possibilities if other physical symptoms are evident!.

Lastly, the psychological diagnostic evaluation will include a mental status examination to assess the full range of psychological symptoms and problems!. This will help identify any other psychological problems that might be present, and will help determine the most appropriate treatment for you!.

Treatment choice will depend on the outcome of the evaluation!. Most people do well with psychotherapy, but some require treatment with antidepressants in addition to psychotherapy!. Medication can allow you to to gain relatively quick symptom relief, if you are experiencing severe and disabling symptoms!. However, medication does not "cure" the depression, it only treats the symptoms!. If you are depressed, you need psychotherapy to help you to learn more effective ways to deal with life's problems, and to change the negative thoughts and attitudes that have caused you to develop depression!.

So make your first move!.Dont wait too long before it get worse!.
You are not alone, there is help around the corner, never give up!.
God bless you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes its possible!. i am living proof!. Over a course of a few months i went from "normal" to a full blown nervous breakdown!. with some support from family/friends and a therapist i was able to recover!. Really i think the guy who answered below me has no freaking clue and second of all it does NOT have to be there for life!. I highly doubt he has ever been through it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i feel sorry for the person that wrote you and seem to trying to cause you more harm that good!. i don't understand people that just have a need to hurt someone and still feel like anyone cares what they think, he's only trying to hurt some else because is a unhappy person or he would not be reading thing question!.

sorry for all that but i feel sorry for people like that!. maybe it is not medical called a breakdown, its a phase that means medically, a sudden physical or psychological collapse!. which could also be called a breakdown!. maybe he needs to look it up in a medical dictionary before making statements about what he must know little about!. i am in the medical Field and have been for 23 years!.

i went through a breakdown about ten years ago after my grandfather died and i went through a divorce and went to therapy and have since learn that there will be times when things will seem as though you are going to that point but most of the time unless you are dealing with something very stressful, you will be able to recognize it and get some help!. i hope you never experience that again, if so try to talk to someone that can help you deal a little better in these timesWww@Answer-Health@Com

truth is there is no such thing as a nervous breakdown!.
what you have is mental disorder
a change of words won't cover up the fact that you need medical help for the rest of your sorry life!.!.!.
---------wake up and smell the roses----------Www@Answer-Health@Com

When someone has a mental break they never recover to their previous functioning level but can come close!. As far as being on edge no it won't always be that way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
