Is it unhealthy to make someone live in a completely boring and blank bedroom?!

Question: Is it unhealthy to make someone live in a completely boring and blank bedroom!?
I'm an art student finishing up my sophomore year of college!. I just received a lecture from my mother about how the bedroom I'm going to be staying in this summer at home is going to be - completely pristine!. No decoration, nothing on the walls!. Just a desk and a bed!. I'm used to a room filled with trinkets and posters at college!.

So I'm trying to FIGHT THE POWER *sarcasm*

Is there anything unhealthy about sticking a creative person in that kind of space!? I know I think I'll go insane, but is there any kind of documented link I can use against this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just because you can't have anything on the walls does not mean you cannot have objects that you enjoy!. Use special lighting to create a mood!. She may be worried about damaging the walls and having to paint them after you are gone!. Have all your paintings available so you can look at them even though they are not hanging on the walls!. Choose one a day and set it on the chair to your desk when you are not using the chair!. Get an easel!. I hope this helps!. Good Luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't go on everything she says!

I don't think it's 'unhealthy' I'd say it's more 'insensitive' however it's her house so it's ultimately her choice, something you just have to deal with!

She may say it's pointless moving out - but in the same sense it's your life! If you need a creative space you have to be the one to go get it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

DON'T LIVE IN YOUR BEDROOM!.!.!. sleep in it!. It's your imagination that counts, not what you're surrounded by!. I'm very artistic myself musically and I also draw/paint!. I've never had to surround myself with paintings or anything like that!.

Get outside!.:)

hey!.!.!.that just might work!.!.!.!.tell your mom if she wants you to be home more, shes going to have to make you feel comfortable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

WOW, your mom sounds like a real stick in the mud!! Maybe you can use your bedding, pillows, etc!.!.as a creative outlet!? You can also take those things with you when you leave, which hopefully will be sooner than later! Good luck!! KarenWww@Answer-Health@Com

why don't you decorate it with something non perminate why would she mind thatWww@Answer-Health@Com

Perhaps she's trying to "encourage" you to find other solutions -- such as getting a job and your own apartment, where you may feel less restricted!. Or possibly she's trying to keep you from thinking of it as 'home' so that you are less likely to try to return to live with her after school!.

Some people find creativity enhanced instead of inhibited by blank space around them, actually!. Some look and see a canvas to work with --though, given, you can't actually do anything THERE, but you could channel and focus that creativity into other areas instead!. Other people are distracted by clutter and don't go on to create or do for themselves, instead keep playing with what's already there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Either you stay there and put up with it, or you DO get your own place!. Your mother saying that its ridiculous, is just an excuse to keep you there and manipulate you further!. Bottom line: you can't expect your parents to cater to you forever!.You want to live by YOUR rules, then get your own place!.

And another thing: how could it POSSIBLY be unhealthy for an art student to be in an empty room!. Next you'll be saying its unhealthy for an art student to be in front of an empty canvas!. Blank spaces aren't supposed to be threatening to an art student; its supposed to be inspiring!.!.!.after all, isnt that what artists DO!? Cover up blank stuff with beauty and originality from their own minds!?

Edit: I'm not saying blankness should be inspiring, but if you're an artist, you should be able to come up with something out of nothing!. If you can't, then you're going to be a failure as an artist, sorry!. If the blank walls are bothering you, then LEAVE and only sleep there!. DUH!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
