What are early signs of OCD in kids?!

Question: What are early signs of OCD in kids!?
My daughter just turned 11, and for years has done things like stare at people for long periods of time, and she hums almost all the time!. When we point out that she's humming, she is completely unaware!. We've thought it was just her, but recently she's become obsessed with thinking that she's accidentally eaten strange things!. For example, one night she was in hysterics because she lost a paperclip off her homework and was convinced she'd swallowed it!. And just now she was putting on her shoes and she was afraid that a rock had been caught in the tread and she'd swallowed it!. She said, "I know it sounds crazy, but I can just feel it in my throat!." Does this make sense to anyone!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had OCD since I could remember!. My first OCD memory is when I learned how to count!. I was counting all the crayons in a big jug we had, and when I got to 999 I had to go ask my mom what came next!. Does your daughter have counting or number rituals!? I would think that would be an easy sign of OCD!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Schizophrenia sounds more like it, but who knows!. It does sound a little strange, however such mental illnesses usually dont become apparent till late teens and early 20's but are becoming increasingly popular amongst children!. If you feel it necessary, you may want to take her to a psychiatrist!. Its not a bad idea considering her behavior is rather odd and infringes on both her daily life and your own!. If the problem is not treated, it will most likely worsen!. This is not normal child behavior!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That sounds more like mild Downs than OCD, though I'd have thought that you'd have noticed that a lot earlier so I may be way off!.

Things to look for are repetitive behavior such as repeated hand washing or doing and undoing something to make it "perfect", and the near ritualization of the way that something is done (for example, having to do something in a set order and becoming agitated when that order is broken)!.

Probably not much help, but the first thing that I would look for would be OCD in the parents!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have mild OCD (untreated) that doesn't effect me all that much!. There are cleanliness issues as in I wash my hands frequently!. Things need to be organized my way!.

I have swallowing nightmares that I wake up thinking I am choking on odd objects like money, desks, horses, couch, pillows!.!.!.the list goes on!.

I take Cymbalta to control my anxiety!. OCD has a very strong anxiety/panic link!.

Zoloft is another good anti-depressant that aides in OCD behaviors!.
Talk to her doctor about this and make a list of the odd behaviors that you see!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This sounds like more than just OCD!. You should take her to be evaluated by a professional!. It sounds more serious!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
