I'm seeing a counselor... now what?!

Question: I'm seeing a counselor!.!.!. now what!?
It was a big hurtle for me to go see a counselor!. Now I've seen her four times, and she hasn't given me a diagnosis!. Do you usually get a diagnosis!? Also, what is supposed to be happening now!? I mean, I go in and talk to her, but I still feel bad!. I haven't seen her for three weeks now because she had a meeting and then was sick, but I'm going to see her tomorrow!. I still feel bad -- almost worse than before -- and I don't know how seeing someone and talking to them every week is going to make this better!. Does it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
the diagnosis is not done by speaking to someone one or two times , it comes when you get to know some one and understand why they feel or think the way they do and to find out how they react to certain situations and if it was the right reaction for that situation!.it takes a while for a diagnosis to come !.and you didn't get in this mood over a short time so it probably won't get resolved in a short time!.so just be patient , tell your councilor how you feel , see if she can shed some light on your questions, and if you feel like you need more sessions then by all means ask for them if she is not going to be there when you think you need her most ,then tell her!.so when you see her tomorrow ask her how she thinks you are doing !. good luck and again be patient, you will start feeling better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I dont think its about giving you a diagnosis, but helping get to the source of your problems and trying to get through them, it can be helpful to talk to someone it kind of lifts weight of your solders and stops you from dealing with the pain alone!. they should also give you some good techniques to stay calm and try thinking positively about life!.
It took me a few times to really get into it when i saw a counselor

Try to stick it through and hopefully she can help!

Wish you all the best xoxoWww@Answer-Health@Com

You may need to see a psychiatrist!. Counselors are good don't get me wrong, but sometimes you need to see a professional!. I am not sure if counselors are allowed to diagnose, that could be why your not getting one!. Seeing a
psychiatrist doesn't mean you have to be on meds!. But talking about your problems may not solve the whole source!.
Like for example, I needed more then therapy because my depression was also hereditary!. If you don't start feeling better I would look towards seeing a professional!. I wish you the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A counselor doesn't diagnose, and shouldn't offer advice!. They try to get you to see the basis of your problems, examine some options for dealing with it, but leave you to choose what is best for you!. They will suggest ways of thinking and techniques for relaxation that might help you!. It is not quick, in my experience!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What type of counselor!? maybe you are not seeking the proper services you need!. Go to a mental health clinic where there are licensed clinical social workers and licensed psychiatrists!. A counselor may just simply try to give you advice whereas a licensed social worker can help you with you behavioral and emotional concernsWww@Answer-Health@Com

The key is to get to the true root of the problem, and that's gonna take a lot of back-breaking digging, but the more you dig, the closer you are!.!.!. and the dirtier you feel!. Give it some real time, not just a few trial weeks!. I'm glad you're getting some good advice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should be feeling better by now!. When I started therapy for feeling down I saw my counselor twice a week for like a month then once a week then every other week etc!. Also I started some wonderful medicine that same day!. I would try another counselor, you are obviously not clicking with this oneWww@Answer-Health@Com

Talking lets someone else know how you feel or what your going through so you don't feel as alone!. It's like having a best friend who understands you and gives you great advice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What is your question!? If you need someone to talk to I will listen at no charge!

The only reason I got a diagnosis from my counselor was because she had to write a letter to my school explaining my condition!. That was a few months after I started with her!. But I never asked for a diagnosis before that and I think she thought I would get caught up in the diagnosis!. And she also may be letting you set the pace for the therapy!. After a few months of only talking about my day and not feeling better I finally asked "When are you going to start telling me how I can not be this way anymore!?" She was waiting until I was ready, otherwise it wouldn't have helped much!.
So, as hard as it may seem, I would ask your counselor at your next meeting about the treatment plan she has in mind for you!. If you don't like her answer then you should think about switching!. But don't be so quick to assume that it isn't working!. Depending on your condition, it may take a very long time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

are you being completely honest!? That's always my setback!. If I'm not being 100% honest then nothing will be accomplished!.
If you are then try someone else!. Talk to your counselor about other ways to help yourself!. They need to know what they're doing isn't working!. Point out the flaws dear, their job is to help you!. And if that isn't working they must know!. IF all else fails go to a psychiatrist who'll prescribe you with some random crap that should make you ease up a bit!. (This is an all else fails suggestion)Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes, it'll help but it's not a magic button!.!.!.it takes time!. No, they don't usually give you a diagnosis!.!.!.first because it's usually not a "clearcut disease/syndrome'!.!.!. it's usually just an adjustment problem and secondly because if they gave you a "diagnosis/label" it inhibits progress!. Therapy involves "active listening" on their part and discovery through talking on your part - you will "cure yourself" when your ears hear the words of discovery spoken by your mouth!. The therapist mainly "steers the steering wheel" and your mouth propels the exploratory vehicle!. In the end if the therapist does well, it will seem like s/he didn't do anything but s/he did - s/he steered while you "drove" there!. The thing is a therapist most of the time is able to diagnose and tell you what you need to know/do the first or second session but if your mind is not ready to accept it it would be COUNTERPRODUCTIVE to tell you!.!.!. you have to take yourself there when your are ready to accept it!. For most things expect 9 months to 3 yearsWww@Answer-Health@Com
