Is anyone scared of their own mind?!


Question: Is anyone scared of their own mind!?
I have thoughts such as "what if I cant stand thinking anymore" "what if my mind pushes me to lose control!?"Www@Answer-Health@Com

This sounds like anxiety neurosis!. I had a bit of a breakdown a couple of years ago and thought similar things!. I was convinced I was going to kill myself but I was terrified because I really didn't want to! Neurosis is the response of the mind to physical anxiety!. It goes like this:

you feel stressed/anxious

your body produces a hormone called cortisol (the stress hormone) which triggers the production of another hormone - adrenaline

Adrenaline is designed to be secreted when you are in a situation in which you either need to fght or run away (this is why a panic attack is called "fight or flight" syndrome)!. For example, if there were a bull about to charge at you you would need to run away as fast as you could!. The adrenaline brings about the physical changes needed to do this (you take in more oxygen, your heart rate increases, you sweat etc!.)

This is where neurosis comes in!. I presume there isn't actually a bull about to charge you when you're anxious! The lack of "bull" confuses the mind!. If you have an aniety disorder you don't necesarily have something to be stressed about so your mind, in order to match the physical symptoms you are experiencing, makes something up!. Like "what if I can't stand thinking anymore"!.

These thoughts cause more stress and the cycle goes back to the beginning and will perpetuate!.

You need to break the cycle!. Try doing this on two levels by attacking two parts of the cycle at once - the mental and the physical!. First of all, take deep breaths!. Concentrate on exhaling longer than you inhale!. I often find that pushing my diaphragm up and squeezing the air out of my lungs, then releasing the diaphragm just long enough for my lungs to fill up again then repeating helps!.

Mentally you need to analyze what you are thinking!. You thoughts are irrational!. Rationlise them!. Why would you stop being able to stand thinking!? Why would your mind make you lose control!? Has it ever happened before!? Why would it happen now!? Have you ever heard of this happening to anyone else!? Prove to yourself that these thoughts are illogical!.

It takes a bit of practise but it's worth it!.

The fear of loosing your mind sometimes can be a aymptom od some illness!. If you are otherwise ok and use these thoughts just to amuse yourself, then it is alright but if otherwise then pls do check with a doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
