How can I tell my mother?!

Question: How can I tell my mother!?
I have started an intensive outpatient program for depression/anxiety!. Its gotten so bad, that I was having suicidal thoughts that wouldn't stop!. I broke and I called a crisis hot line who in turn recommended therapy, which I am doing now!. I have been on meds for years, but the last four months have been hard!. My husband has been awesome and very supportive, however on one day of the week we have family therapy!. As much as I would like to bring my mother, I don't think she understands how I am feeling and what depression is!. I love her very much, we are close but deep down I think she sees me as crazy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Going to the doctor with you is a great way to ease her fears!. He can answer all of the questions she may be too afraid to ask you!.
He can reassure her that depression is a medical condition caused by a problem in your central nervous system!. It's as serious as heart attacks, seizures, etc!. Once she becomes educated, she'll probably try to learn as much as she can about it!.
IOP is really a great way to let her see from other people what it's like, to hear them talk about what they go through so she doesn't feel like it's just you!. It really helped my boyfriend to come to a few of my open IOP sessions!. He's been great ever since, I think he finally realizes there's something genuinely wrong and just wants me to get well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your family LOVES you, always remember that!. she doesn't thinks you are crazy, All you have to remember is keep doing what your doing which is going to therapy and you will live a long happy life!. always think positives NEVER negatives!.

I'll give you some positives right now just by reading your quiestion and details

You care about yourself
You have a loving husband
You have a therapist that can make your life better than it already is
You have a mom that loves you (yes even if you think she doesn't she does VERY MUCH)
And WAY more!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

perhaps you may want to test on your mum by asking her what she think about depression etc!.

i understand how you feel though depression is not really a mental illness but there are lots of people still don't understand and sometimes they will think you are mentally ill!. i had such experience and i realized some of my friend think that i am crazy but the fact is i am not at all just that sometime i feel really down and very negative!.

if she really doesn't understand perhaps you can try it another time rather than it makes you feel worst, right!?

take care and get well soon!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,First of all you are not crazy from suffering from depression!.I am glad you knew to seek out help and are in therapy now, that is progress!.Maybe you can discuss this with your therapist and see what she might suggest!.Maybe you can get some pamphlets on both depression and anxiety to help her better understand it,if she has questions she can ask your therapist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Chances are if you feel that your mom won't be supportive/understanding then it would most likely be detremental to your progess to bring her on board, at this point!. Once you have gotten past a certain level of progress, it might be a good idea to reconsider the idea!. Of course that is only if you feel it will help not hinder you!.
Best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Maybe see if she would go alone first so the therapist could explain things to her!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
