Question: Can people's perception of a person who was previously in mental treatment change!?
If you knew somebody who was treated in a mental institution and got out of it, could you ever see him as normal again or would you always think that there's a crazy reason behind everything he does!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ray, having been down this road myself I have found most people give you another chance to prove yourself to them!.

Though I have run into a couple who refuse to deal with me for that same reason!. Which is fine, it just means that do not have the ability to see past the stigma associated with mental issues and are afraid I will relapse!. Sometimes it does take awhile for people to not feel uneasy around you!. But eventually providing your therapy has worked, they will starting turning up again!. You really have to show you are strong and have healed a good portion of you!. Note, I did not say you were cured!. With a mental illness, there is never a true cure only managing symptoms via, medication, counseling, support groups and possibly group therapy or etc treatments!.

I personally have never endured electroshock therapy but I have known a couple of other people who have and I have seen a world of difference in them after they are done with their sessions!.

People who have been down that road often are true friends of mine because they are the ones who understands what is like to have issue that really need to be professionally taken care of!. We tend to be more forgiving and supportive then people who have never suffered with mental issues!.

In my case I am borderline personality disorder!. Which is similar to being bi-polar!. I can tell you my ex husband had major issues with my problem and ultimately it cause the demise of our marriage!. The person I am with now and engaged to has had many issues himself!. He has been the most supportive person and does not judge me on what I had to do in order to get stable!.

Also, I can tell you I used to get really annoyed when someone found out about what I went through and they would question if I was really ok to be doing whatever I was doing at the time!. Especially if I were quiet, because that was just not how I am around most people!.

I hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think this often happens!. The best thing is to try to not let anyone know about it!. I think some jobs ask this question!.!.I don't know if they all do!. So many people go to rehab these days !.!.and that's supposed to be a good thing!. People admire them when they do that!. But, if someone goes for a mental problem!.!.!.everyone tries to play psychiatrist!. It's not fair!. If it was you!.!.!.!.try not to let anyone know about it!. If they find out!.!.!.try to laugh it off or something!. If you get upset or mad about it!.!.!.you know what they'll think!.!.!.!.!.Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com
