I teach kids with autism, have a brother with Asperger's, and I have attended seminars on Asperger's!. It honestly doesn't sound like he has that!. People with asperger's are not unfeeling/uncaring, it's more like they don't get social cues/rules such as understanding body language, making eye contact, respecting spatial boundaries, knowing not to interrupt people when talking, etc!. They have a hard time getting jokes and they think that the oddest things are funny!. They don't get phrases like "stuck between a rock and a hard place" because they take it literally, like the person is physically stuck!. They have very specialized serial interests that are more like obsessions!. If right now your friend has asperger's and he is interested in jet engines, he will know and tell you EVERY single minute detail about them, like a talking encyclopedia!. If you change the subject, he won't even realize it, he'll just go straight back to talking about jet engines!. People with asperger's are often hyperlexic (they talk too much) when you get them talking about one of their interests and they often dominate conversations!. He may be sensitive to textures and only like soft cotton clothing!. He may also be overly sensitive to light and sound!. Oh, and they really don't lie, at least not more than anyone else!. But this guy sounds more like he has a personality disorder, not autism or asperger's!. I hope that helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is surely not Asperger syndrome because in aspergers syndrome the subjects have difficulty in maintaining social responses like smiling back, looking into eyes while speaking, having routine way doing things!.

Its is also not Borderline personality disorder!. Because this people are sensitive and get raged when disturbed by any comments!. they have habits of self mutilating behavior(cutting arms) and make suicidal gestures!.

May be think of Narcissitic personality disoder or Perosnality disorder not other wise specifiedWww@Answer-Health@Com

BPD, and Asperger's are addressed in sections 17, and 21, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris If he has fairly good social skills, such as picking up on social cues, and being able to look people in the eye in a relatively normal manner, then get the book: "I hate you: don't leave me": (try www!.amazon!.com) read it, and give to him to read, or read it to him, bit by bit, according to his level of focus!. Maintain your space, and don't get too involved with such a person!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

From what I've been reading in the quest to know more about myself (avoidant) I stumbled upon the subject of personality disorders and from what Wikipedia says about Asperger's:

Unlike those with autism, people with AS are not usually withdrawn around others; they approach others, even if awkwardly, for example by engaging in a one-sided, long-winded speech about a favorite topic while being oblivious to the listener's feelings or reactions, such as signs of boredom or haste to leave!.[3] This social awkwardness has been called "active but odd"!.[3] This failure to react appropriately to social interaction may appear as disregard for other people's feelings, and may come across as insensitive!.

it sounds like your 'friend' fits the bill, although making a big scene if you threaten to withdraw contact falls more under Histrionic personality disorder, where the person is always seeking to be the center of attention!.

Many well-documented sociopaths display what you've described also; a cool calculatedness with no regard for others, incapable of showing appropriate emotions, without conscience!.Only sorry that they got caught!. They can be your local scam artist offering a deal too good to be true or they can be the next Ted Bundy, but either way somebody that cannot handle rejection or withdrawal in a mature manner is highly potential for intending harm to themselves or others

Check that, I just read your last line and the easily influenced part is dead-bang Histrionic!. Check it out on Wiki

you just brought tears to my eyes, you just described my best friend to the tee, i feel like his father sometimes, all i can do is love him, he is my friend and that is what matters, i will always take care of him, love him and just enjoy his company and not expect anything more than what he is willing to share, the simplicity of how he leads his life is almost supernatural, he is very gifted as an artist but lacks the drive to flow with the herd!. you can post a comment on my 360 if you would like to continue exchanging information!.-blureyWww@Answer-Health@Com
