I think I am in a relationship with someone who exhibits symptoms from borderline personality disorder or histrionic pers!. disorder!.!.!.I only got this info from looking things up on the internet though!. It's just that he perceives things sooo totally out of the norm most times, and it feels like we fight every single day!. We've been together a year and I don't want to leave him if there's any way he can get help and get better!. Does therapy really work!? And medications!? Does it ever go away or change with age!? He's 20 and has father abandonment issues, this I know from what he's told me!. only problem is we live on an island and I don't know about therapy here, if there is any!. The relationship is stressful but I love him and want to help him, is it worth it or will he never change!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Firstly, it's great that you're so caring and willing to be there for him if need be!. Try talking to him about it and seeing about getting evaluated by a doctor and/or starting therapy to at least help with the abandonment issues!. Your family doctor can probably provide you with the names of psychologists/psychiatrists in your area!.

There's a therapy program called Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT for short!. wikipedia has a good article about it) that was actually designed for people with borderline personality disorder, though people with other diagnoses (like me) participate in it too!. I'm currently in a DBT class and I'll admit I wasn't too sure about it at first, but now I'm so glad I'm going!. You typically take the DBT class along with seeing an individual therapist!. I don't know how readily available DBT classes are, but regular therapy and possibly medication (I'm not sure about what medications might work for borderline, but a doctor would) would definitely help!.

Best of luck! =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

it sounds like you really care for him!.!. the thing about getting help or finding help for another person is that it won't work unless they want the help!. Try talking to him about your concerns and see what he says!.!. if he wants help it will be easier for the both of you to find it!. Maybe you might have to fly into a city to get some help!. I REALLY wish you and your man the best!. He is very lucky to have you!.!.!. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

So far, there are no known medications that treat borderline personality disorder, but therapy is known to help!. Research shows that this condition does lessen in intensity with age!. Good Luck!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
