Question: Can ongoing abuse cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder!?
I am coming out of a relationship/marriage that lasted two years!. The year we were married was filled with extreme verbal and emotional abuse, isolation from others and manipulation!. My husband had two personalities- really nice and verbally cruel and abusive!. Lately, I am sleeping at least 12 hours a day and having nightmares about the cruel things he used to say to me!. I am numb and having trouble concentrating!. I am having trouble feeling and showing emotions!. I am also having many other symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder!.
From what I've read, PTSD usually occurs after a single, shocking, violent incident, but can it also occur after a year or more of daily verbal abuse!? My husband said so many horrible things to me that made no sense, yet after a year of repetition, my reality was distorted!. Now I am free, and excited to start a good life, but the nightmares, etc!. are very disturbing and are causing me to have trouble functioning!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

PTSD can, in fact, be the result of long-term trauma in the form of abuse, and it's just as catastrophic as the PTSD that results from a single, traumatizing event!. From what I've read, you've got it!.
You should get yourself a psychologist/psychiatrist who specializes in PTSD; this problem will not go away by itself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i am so sorry that happened to you, no one should have to go through that!.!.!. and yes it can case ptsd and thats not all i'm sure of!.!.!. counceling would be the best bet for you at this point in time!.!.!. it may take a whyle but it works!.!. and take it slow you don't want to rush into anything else after that!.!.!. good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
