Does prozac serve as a happy pill for anyone???!

Question: Does prozac serve as a happy pill for anyone!?!?!?
Okay recently i've been taking it lately and i've been more happier lately!. I wasn't sure if it was because I happen just to be more confident lately or if it's because of the medicine!. Well yesterday usually I take my pill in the morning but I had to take it at lunch this time (long story)!. Well my dad hurt my feelings really bad and I felt so horrible!. I felt actual pain as if I were being stabbed or something!. Then my mom gave me my medicine and I refused to take it but eventually she got me to take it!. Right after I took it I felt very calm!. I didn't feel the pain anymore and I acutally felt kind of happy!. As if my dad never yelled at me!. Does it do that to anyone else!. And I don't know it's kind of weirding me out medicine is controling my emotions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It takes six weeks on any anti-depressant to get the full effects of it!. It is quite probable that you are reacting to not having had the med when you forget!. I know that this happens to me with my meds!. If it's working for you, great!. However, if you find yourself having any of the following symptoms, you should see a psychiatrist:
A!. A distinct period of persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood, lasting throughout at least 4 days, that is clearly different from the usual nondepressed mood!.

B!. During the period of mood disturbance, three (or more) of the following symptoms have persisted (four if the mood is only irritable) and have been present to a significant degree:

1!. inflated self-esteem or grandiosity
2!. decreased need for sleep (e!.g!., feels rested after only 3 hours of sleep)
3!. more talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking
4!. flight of ideas, or subjective experience that thoughts are racing
5!. distractibility (i!.e!., attention too easily drawn to unimportant or irrelevant external stimuli)
6!. increase in goal-directed activity (either socially, at work or school, or sexually) or psychomotor agitation
7!. excessive involvement in pleasurable activities that have a high potential for painful consequences (e!.g!., engaging in unrestrained buying sprees, sexual indiscretions, or foolish business investments)

C!. The episode is associated with an unequivocal change in functioning that is uncharacteristic of the person when not symptomatic!.

D!. The disturbance in mood and the change in functioning are observable by others!.

E!. The episode is not severe enough to cause marked impairment in social or occupational functioning, or to necessitate hospitalization, and there are no psychotic features!.

F!. The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e!.g!., a drug of abuse, a medication, or other treatment) or a general medical condition (e!.g!., hyperthyroidism)!.

If these are true and an anti-depressant is either not working or seemingly over affecting you, you may possibly have Bipolar, Type II or Type I!.

I hate that family docs are able to give meds for this very reason!. There are too many people who are misdiagnosed and can go years and even decades before they are properly diagnosed!. However, this is a personal opinion!.

I was given anti-depressants for decades before I was finally correctly diagnosed with Bipolar even though there was a family history of Bipolar!. When I was finally diagnosed properly, I was already almost 40 years old!. It then took two years to find the right mix of meds to work for me!.

Again, for you, this may very well have been a normal reaction!. This is simply information for you, NOT meant for diagnostic purposes!!!!!

it only helps those that are depressed and stuff i f you are ok then you wouldn't feel but maybe a upper and then that is dangerous!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been on Prozac so long I call it the "Prozac for Life" plan!. I cannot say it made me ecstatically happy at any point!. But, it did help me get over my chronic depression!.

Usually, myself included, when people start Prozac, feelings of agitation and anxiety develop and last about 2 weeks!. I felt like I was really tense!. I couldn't sleep!. I was always grinding my teeth, and in general, couldn't sit still!.

Fortunately, my MD also gave me a prn prescription for Ativan!. Just a small dose!. But it relieved all that tension quite well!.

After about 2-3 weeks, my body had become acclimated to the Prozac in my system and everything went back to normal!.

THEN, I was ready for therapy and able to cope better when situations such as that between you and your father occurred!. I could think more clearly!.

STAY ON IT! It will do no good to go on and off!. You will feel much more positive about your life if you stick with it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Prozac is given at a low dose such that 1 pill should have no effect!. I had to take 500mg to get a mild buzz!.

Instead, the expectation is that the Prozac will gradually build up to a therapeutic effect!.

While it's possible you were getting withdrawal symptoms, it's more likely that the interaction with your mom helped your mind to find a resolution to the way your dad treated you!.

Remember, parents are often screwed up!. Sometimes people can't help making mistakes!.

Forgiveness is one of the few tools that everyone can use to make their own lives easier!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Antideps are a mixed bottle, that's to be sure!. On one hand, you feel calmer and regulated when you take them, but the withdrawal is horrible even if it's just for a couple hours!. It's natural to wonder: Who is the real me!?

Depending on your condition, you may need them for a short time or forever!. However, on or off them, you can learn to modulate and tolerate your emotions!. You can be sad on Prozac!. You can cry on Prozac, if you just let it come!. You don't have to be flat!. It's harder to be "happy" without it, and maybe impossible, which is why sometimes it's about feeling the range of emotions beyond despondence!.

I've been on several meds for six years, and most of them didn't even work!. When I started the combo that eventually worked, I felt on top of the world (pathologically so :) )!. This wears off after a while, and you feel normal!. Able to experience things, that's all!.

That said, many people pop pills just because they feel a little "down!." It's easy to get a scrip these days!. It's something to consider seriously at any rate, and it's up to you to get a handle on your emotions, with or without pills!.!.!.

Sorry to ramble, but hope this helps! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
