Question: Does an antidepressant by itself cause serantonin syndrome!?
I was on Depakote by it self and then with Lexapro!. During this time period, I had some FUNKY FUNKY dreams and such!. I am an obsessive worrier and all!. When I got off the Depakote, I had two nights where I thought I was "floating"!. I was hallucinating with dreams when I was on the Lexapro and the Citalopram after that!. How do you know!? Or is it just side effects of the drugs!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, it seems unlikely that you were suffering from seratonin toxidrome, inspite of the double whammy of antidepressants!. If you begin to feel any more sever symptoms - racing heart, headaches, dizziness, nausea etc!. then contact your doctor immediately!. Depakote is shown to slightly lengthen the clearance times of certain tricyclic antidepressants, but none of your meds are, so I don't think that's important!. I imagine the vivid dreams are probably a side effect of the psychoactive meds, not a new condition!. Unless the hallucinations were while you were awake!.

Serotonin syndrome is usually caused by taking more than one SSRI at the same time, from what my doctor told me!. I have the begining symptoms of it which include muscle stiffness, like I have a hard time moving my neck without pain!. If you have full blow serotonin syndrome you would know!. You will go into shock and end up in the hospital and possibly dead!. Your body temp will shoot up to 105 degrees and you will be really sick!.

yes, they can!. I presume you're speaking of SSRI class of AD, and yes, getting overdosed on them can result in serotonin syndrom - heart failure or stroke and coma, and death!.
The risk of serotonine syndrom is high only at humongous dosage (like several packs of SSRI drug : paxil , zoloft, prozac, lexapro, or their generics etc )Www@Answer-Health@Com
