Yes, animals can have mental issues just like humans!. They can go through depression, anxiety, and paranoia - among other things!.
Two of my three cats are very territorial, and fight often!. And they're always creeping around the house, and you can just FEEL the anxiety coming from them!. They're so nervous about bumping into each other and fighting, it's horrible!.
