Are you scared of your pet dying?!

Question: Are you scared of your pet dying!?
I think I'm a bit!.!.!.pessimistic!.!.!.or perhaps I worry way too much!. My cat is 15, he's overall pretty healthy and active, but he has hyperthyroid (which he is on medication for) - and every day, I worry about him to the point of almost tears in fear that he'll die soon!. It is constantly on my mind that I might not have alot of time left with him (as he is 15 years old now, regardless of his current state of health)!.!.!.does anyone else feel this way!? Do you have intense fears of losing your pet, or perhaps, your child!? So much so that it takes over your life!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sometimes I do!. I think you sound perfectly normal!. It's nice to hear how much you care about your cat, as opposed to hearing about people abandoning their pets or abusing them!. 15 years is a nice long life for a cat!. I'm glad you have such nice memories of him!. I hope he sets a record and lives a lot longer!!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Everyone comes to a point in there life when they worry about a loved one leaving them [as in passing away]!. I admit, I have had moments where I think of my eldest cats [oldest is six, the second-oldest is five] dying, because they both are in pretty bad conditions [the oldest is pretty overweight, and the second-oldest suffers from a severe, chronic bladder infection]!. I'd be so lost without them, they've been my best friends for years!.

But, as I said, this is pretty normal!. I don't think it would take over a person's life, unless the said loved one is in a serious condition!.

You really never realize how much you love someone/thing when they might be taken away from you!. It's a shame, but something that's true about EVERY human-being!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are not alone, i sometimes cant sleep at night for fear of losing my daughter, partner or one of my two dogs but i think that it is quite normal to feel this way especially if someone or something that you love is old or ill!. Speak to anyone that has a family pet and they will probably tell you that they felt exactly the same way as you do now!. Read the book called Marley and me and you will find out exactly what i mean!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your pet is the same as your child! I don't care what anyone says!. I've had my dog for 16 years!. Lately, she's had a heart murmur, repeated infections everywhere, seizures from a side effect of a drug!. I totally understand how you feel!. I worry about her all the time!. It seems like every time something's wrong, she'll have to be put to sleep!. I'm prepared for her death but it will be horrible!. This has all actually led me into panic attacks and anxiety!. I've of course got some other things going on, but it's a piece of it!. Just try and not worry!. When God decides it's time to take him, he will be in good hands!. That's the way I try and think now and it helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi Melissa,

Yes, I have a small Feist (sp!?) that is almost 10 years old!. He goes everywhere with me!! I take him into pet stores, on vacation, he loves riding a "pool float" as well!. I love him like he was my son, and you can tell that he loves me just as much!.

I had a Black Lab before this 'lil dog!.!.!.she was 16 years old, I had to "put her down!." I was in tears!.!.!.real crying!. But I had bought my 'lil dog (Chico) about a month before!. It was a "fluke' that I even bought him!. None of us will live forever, we all go on!. I still have wonderful memories of the black lab, and many photos of her!. I would prepare myself if I were you!. You will go through a grieving process as we all do!. I'm suggesting that you get another cat/dog before your beloved pet passes to the other side!. I know it sounds cruel, but I have never had a dog more loving than the one I have now, and I will have to face this again, and I WILL have a puppy around as he gets on in age!. I hope this helps some, my heart is with you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

This past February, I lost my 12 year old Chihuahua, Tiny!. We had to put her to sleep!. Now, I'm worried about my 11 year old Chihuahua, Chico, having to be put to sleep like Tiny had to be!. He's got bad knees, bad teeth, is cranky all the time, and wants to be alone most of the time!. He takes medication for his knees, but it greatly worries me that he may pass away soon, especially since I just went through the loss of one pet!. I'm not sure if I could handle another loss like Tiny!. It's constantly on my mind and I get to the point of tears sometimes!. I have no human children!. My dogs are my "children," at this point!.

My doctor is suggesting counseling or therapy to help me cope with losing Tiny and to prepare me for the loss of a pet in the future!. I suggest that you talk to your doctor to see if there may be a support group or counselor for you to go to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I`m glad that others are being kind (so far) with this question!. I understand exactly how you feel!. My cat is 12, I can tell she`s getting slower!. She has always been 'my little girl'!. I cry at the thot of her dying & what to do with her! I really have to find a distraction or it starts to overwhealm me!! God gives us a chance to love a pet for a short time!. I guess we have to be thankful that we`ve had that chance, been able to experience those strong feelings! Just think where some of these pets would be without people like us!.!.!.so love`m while they`re here!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have dealt with several deaths of pets, two of FIP in the last 6 months!. Though it's been extremely heart-wrenching, it's NOTHING in comparison to losing a child!

If you believe it's the same, you need to see a mental health professional immediately!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
