Drug Treatment vs Not doing drugs in the first place?!

Question: Drug Treatment vs Not doing drugs in the first place!?
Should somebody who did lots of drugs (coke!.!.!.!.) and was an alcoholic who then went and got treatment to become clean be considered a better man (might not be the right phrase) or just better than somebody who never did drugs, and doesn't drink!. Just because the other, went through and over came his/her disorder, instead of avoiding the problem entirely!.

Summary of the question!. Is it better to learn from others mistakes as the, or is it better to learn from your own mistakes!?

It's confusing, for me because i see all these people being praised for getting treatment for something so stupid like drugs and alcohol!. while those who never touch the poison are ignored!. IE, a huge presentation at my university about some girl who almost died from alcohol poisoning but then became totally sober, and i couldn't help but wonder, why aren't they doing this presentation for somebody who was intelligent enough to not start drinking in the first place!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Those who don't do drugs have other vices!. Drugs just isn't their particular flavor of vice!. We are all equal but different!. Therefore comparing oneself to another is unwise as if you point out someone else's faults, they will point out yours!. So really no they are no better and they are no worse than anyone else!. they are the same!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

no I am more willing to commend the person who never did drugs because i could have done so, i have done herbs but wouldn't do drugs, and i have drank because it is legal but i quit that fairly easily!. i have been through a lot in my life and if i had been rewarded for not doing anything in the first place i would have had something to be happy aboutWww@Answer-Health@Com

go through being an adict and then try to get it! th guy who used drugs, was weak when he chose that yes, and weaker than the adverage person but, he got stronger than the adverage person and quit so yes acutally!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've done many drugs and drunk lots of alcohol, and I never became addicted!. Addiction (especially alcoholism) seems to have a genetic component!. It is also linked to pre-existing psychiatric conditions (such as bipolar disorder)!. In any case, addiction to any drug or behavior is very difficult to overcome indeed, and those who had enough willpower to do it are both an example to those addicted and an inspiration for those trying to recover from this condition!. Of course, staying away from drugs is a very good choice, since there is no way to know who will become addicted and who won't!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you sound like one of my old friends when i tried to make amends after sobering up!. he said "you seem to expect me to congratulate you for doing something you should have been doing anyway"!.

if you have never been addicted, you will not be able to understand!. the cogent point here is that we all learn and grow and change to become greater than we were yesterday, regardless of what past dragons we have slain!.
I have great regard for some of my fellows in recovery because they continue to take the higher road!. I also find that there are countless "normies" who work spiritual principals in their lives and actions!. I suggest you focus on the message and not the messenger!. It sounds like this "huge presentation" had an intent to educate and prevent more students from acting stupid! can you imagine how humbling that had to be for the girl in question!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

They need the support, you don't, let them have it!.

And yes they do deserve praise because they fought a battle and won!. If you don't like it go find something to fight for, you don't have to be a recovering addict to do something impressive!. You can spearhead literacy, or plant trees, or start your own business!. Whatever the case stop worrying about others and find a way to deserve praise for your own accomplishments!.

Consider an anology!.

A man is kicked by a child, he is not emotionally effected by the child and sends the child on his way!.

Another man is kicked by a child, he is overwhelmed with rage, but he knows hitting a child is wrong, so he resists this rage and sends the child on his way!.

Which of these two deserve praise!?
The second had to overcome his demons to move forward, the first might as well have slept through the test!. The first could be argued to have natural talent, the second had to apply themselves!. Which do you value, hard work, or natural talent!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
