Problems with anti-depressants?!

Question: Problems with anti-depressants!?
For the past two or so years I have been on fluoxetine for my depression, it was working to begin with, but then started to interfere with my body, if you will!. I was getting constant stomach cramps, just very sharp pains right through my abdomen and was getting colds all the time!. When I missed a tablet I became very ill and wouldn't be able to leave the house!. This has happened both on and off the tablets!. If I could have any help it would be wonderful!.
I am currently seeing a counsellor!.
My Mum was on citalopram, she successfully came off them, however, when I tried I became very ill - headaches, stomach aches, nausea, flu-like symptons!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

How quickly did you come off them!? It can help to taper your dose, meaning to gradually take less & less until you're off it!.

Some people are more drug sensitive than others, so you might have to do this in several steps!. Each time you lower the dose, stay on this lower dose for a week, or even longer, so that your body gets used to less of it!. I've even heard of people cutting their tablets up into tiny little pieces so that they can taper off them really, really gradually!.

There are other medications you can take to help with withdrawal symptoms, like stemetil which helps a lot with dizziness and nausea, normal painkillers for headaches, anti-diarrhoea tablets and so on!.

It's been my experience that the best way to go off meds is a short hospital stay were you can be monitored and a new med could be admidistered safely!. The body changes, so why not the meds!? Finding the right kind of meds ia like trail and error till the right combo is found !. Believe me it's worth it in the end!. My prayers are with you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Talk to your doctor, you shouldn't stop these medications abruptly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yeah, coming off of anti-depressants is not fun, at all!. i've actually stopped taking two anti-depressants about two weeks ago, and i'm barely starting to feel normal and without the flu-symptoms you mentioned!. i got severe dizzy spells and felt like my brain paused every few minutes!. it wasn't fun!.

i've read everywhere that you should get off any medication slowly, i didn't do that because i wanted to get it over with and i felt like i could handle it!. its not something i recommend, even though i'm glad i did it!.

i guess you should try getting them off (if that's what you are going to do, i got off them for various reasons) around a time where you don't have a lot of responsibility or deadlines!. that way, you can sleep a lot, rest a lot, and not have to try to be superwoman for that time period!. :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

You may like to see a psychiatrist to adjust your medication!. There are other medication available!. Many people do not respond well to anti-depressants!.

Depression may be caused by negative thoughts, poor circumstances, loss of loved ones, genetic factors, biochemical imbalance in the brain, emptiness in heart, unforgiveness, addictions etc!.
