I guess I am kind of like that I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was sixteen!. Well, I am eighteen know and my social skills have improved very much!. I do have to say that Asperger's does exist however the question that is relevent to you is wheater or not you have or not!. I am not a doctor!. Here are the current guidlines for diagnostics for AS:299!.80 Asperger's Disorder
Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:
Marked impairment in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors, such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body postures, and gestures to regulate social interaction!.
Failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level!.
A lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people (e!.g!., by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people)!.
A lack of social or emotional reciprocity!.

Restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities, as manifested by at least one of the following:
Encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or focus!.
Apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals!.
Stereotyped and repetitive motor mannerisms (e!.g!., hand or finger flapping or twisting, or complex whole-body movements)!.
Persistent preoccupation with parts of objects!.

The disturbance causes clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning!.

There is no clinically significant general delay in language (e!.g!., single words used by age 2 years, communicative phrases used by age 3 years)!.

There is no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or in the development of age-appropriate self-help skills, adaptive behavior (other than in social interaction), and curiosity about the environment in childhood!.

I do not think I really fit the DSM anymore but that does not neccesarily mean I do not have AS!. It probably means that I have gained enough social skills to function in society!. I will try and keep the Asperger's label of course!. One can get accomadations in most colleges (my Asperger's influences my motor skills most noticable is my handwriting)!. If you are in high school the school may also be able to provide accomadations!. Agian I am not a doctor nor do I know you well!. I hope this able to help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is very real!. I've known a few kids with it!. There are social difficulties that go with it!. Tending to be kind of one sided in conversation is a big one I've noticed!. Talk with your doctor and parents, maybe they can direct you to some good resources to help you learn more about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

People with AS, including some you've probably heard of:
like Ben Franklin, Madame Curie, Diane Fossey, and Bill Gates, have many gifts to offer!. They also find it difficult to think outside of their own incredible box, with is sometimes a blessing, and sometimes difficult!. It helps alot if the people around you get educated so they understand how you are neurologically wired!. You may want to contact the local or National AS society to get a referral to a therapist or AS educator!. There are some great books out there on this subject!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
