Answers:
I have to say that the people who do not know things shouldn't answer the questions !. Pseudodementia is an official diagnosis by mental health , and the psychiatrist ( not the neurologist ) who made the diagnosis understand what is going on with your uncle !. Pseudodementia is a severe form of depression , causing problems with cognition ( memory , concentration , and functioning) and treated with antidepressants and psychotherapy!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

"Pseudo" means false!. In other words, what your uncle is presenting with is something which appears dementia-like (e!.g!., Alzheimer's dementia), but actually is not!. In other words - the physician (probably a neurologist or psychiatrist) treating him doesn't have the slightest idea what, precisely, is wrong!.

Oftentimes, pseudodementia is a consequence of very severe depression!. If this is the case, anti-depressants may represent the best route towards resolving the situation!.

Your best bet, is to encourage your uncle to see another neurologist (or specialist of his choice) so you can get to the bottom of the situation and get him the treatment he so desperately needs!.

Best of luck,

"Pseudo" as in like something but not the same!. Dementia is what they used to call being senile!. Alzheimers is a form of dementia!. psuedodementia is of a more sudden onset, usually caused by something that can be reversed, such as a reaction to drugs, medicine, some kind of infection!. Even depression can present with signs of dementia!. The important thing is to find the cause and treat it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
